The first days, week or 2 weeks after you bring your baby home...
Will you have anyone staying with you to help you for the first few days, week or two after your baby is born?
If so, is it family or are you hiring someone to stay with you at 24/7, just at night, or help during the day?
Thanks for answering. My husband and I don't have family that can come help us in the beginning. So after asking everyone we know for recommendations we finally found a 24/7 baby nurse that will stay with us for 7-10 days. The cost is huge, but I think I will need the support....so I was just wondering what everyone else is doing.
Thanks again.

Re: The first days, week or 2 weeks after you bring your baby home...
I have been around babies my whole life and I feel really confident. Plus dh owns his own business so he can be home with me for a while or just go to work for a few hrs and come home. I am really looking forward to figuring it all out just me and him. My mom offered to stay but like I said, this is for me and dh to figure out.
But if you have no family at all and think you really need the help than a baby nurse sounds like a great idea if you can afford it

we didn't the first time and won't now.
i denied any and all help - i want us to bond together
everything went fine - and i was recovering from a c section.
do what you feel is comfy for you though
it's not as bad as most people portray it to be, imo

We won't have anyone staying with us, but I'm sure we will have people in and out everyday. Our families live very close, so we have a huge support system if we need the help. Like jteach... I've been around babies my entire life and I'm looking forward to taking this on with DH.

Re: The first days, week or 2 weeks after you bring your baby home...
With DD we were going to do it, no help. We figured, how hard can it be? By the time she was 2 weeks old, we were looking for a baby nurse. We had one from 3 weeks old to 6 weeks old. It was a g-d send, the best money we ever spent.
This time around, we decided to do it from day 1.... she came the evening we came home and just left last week (DS is now 8 weeks old). Again, best $$ we spent. I was able to sleep at night although I was up at the butt crack of dawn every day since I have DD who was 18 months when the baby was born.
I just don't deal well with sleep deprivation. I have anxiety issues and don't handle stress too well, so this was helpful.
We all bonded just fine even with the nurse here 24/7.

We're gonna tough it out by ourselves
A baby nurse isn't in our budget by any means. I'm sure family will stop in and offer to do things...and we'll play it by ear, if we need some help, some meals cooked, whatever...we'll take it...

DH is going to take a few days off and so is my mom. My MIL will be around but she has to get rides to me because she does not drive. I think we can handle the rest.

Re: The first days, week or 2 weeks after you bring your baby home...
We are going to stay at my parents house for around the first two weeks. My husband is on nights for the month of April and first two weeks in May and I'm nervous to be all alone in the beginning. Depending on when the baby is born we will come back to our apartment when he's back on days. My mom was a NICU nurse and my dad's a pediatrician. I feel like I'll be in good hands there.

Re: The first days, week or 2 weeks after you bring your baby home...
With DS#1, we lived in a 1BR apartment in the city so there was no room for anyone to stay if we wanted. But we had family who would come by for a few hours during the day a few days a week to help out.
This time we now live in a house about 10 minutes from my parents. I work FT and have a nanny 3 days a week. We have to keep her employed while I am home on maternity leave so she will be there 3 days a week to help me with both children. My family will help out as needed.

Thankfully we have family...DH cousin's offered while my family came down. Most likely we will have a full house. FIL is coming for a few weeks and MIL offered to stay with us starting in April.

Re: The first days, week or 2 weeks after you bring your baby home...
I really don't think I would need anybody. I've worked with babies for years and really do know what I'm doing. Plus i wouldn't want a stranger in my house, even if they're there to help. That kinda thing just makes me uncomfortable, and I do feel that I'm going to want alone time with LO. That said though - DH IS taking off of work that first week and his mother has offered to take off of work as well. So if I DO feel that i need the exra help, I will definitely call her.

Nah we dont have that kind of money to be spending, plus i think its going to be a good bonding time getting to know each other. DH will be home for 2 weeks and my mother is taking a week off from work to help out.

Nope. When we brought DS home it was just the three of us and this time it will be just the four of us!

No way!!!!!!
There is no way I would want someone around "helping". I used that time to figure out how to be a new mom and bond with my DD. We had visitors, of course, but not "help" in the sense you mean.

My DH will be home the first week and it will just be us, though i'm sure we'll have constant family over. the second week, DH has to go back to work; my mom is going to come and stay the week.

Re: The first days, week or 2 weeks after you bring your baby home...
We will most likely have constant visitors but for the most part i want me, dh and the baby to all adjust the first week since dh will most likely be home from work. After that I really want to get the feel of being a mom. I'm having a csection tho so if i need my mom the second week at all she'll come over.

Re: The first days, week or 2 weeks after you bring your baby home...
With DS, I had an emergency C-section, DH took two weeks off and then my mother took a week off. She would come while DH was at work.
We were fine at night with just the two of us, I was nursing and I had issues with my milk coming in so we supplemented in the beginning. I would getup and nurse and DH would go down to get a bottle.
This PG DH won't be able to get as much time off so my Mom, who is now retired, will be helping me during the day for the first few weeks. I'll have to have a repeat C-section and won't be able to run after my toddler so the help will be very much appreciated!

Just me & DH - I am lucky to have family close by that if I need the help I will get it, but I kind of want to do it on my own

Re: The first days, week or 2 weeks after you bring your baby home...
No.
My DH didn't even stay with me after my first two were born. He was back at work the day following my return from the hospital (luckily I had the weekend with him the 2nd time!)....and I had c-sections with both. All grandparents/aunts/uncles were working at the time as well. So yeah, it was JUST me.
Luckily, my DH's job flexibility has changed a lot in the past 3.5 years, so he plans on being around a good amount of time with #3.
Heck, I won't even get a cleaning lady because I find it too weird to be around while SHE'S cleaning MY house...I can't imagine a scenario where I'd feel comfortable with a baby nurse.
