the great debate...Lucian vs. LucianO UPDATE with possible solution!

NEVER would I imagine myself fighting with my husband about an extra "O" but that is exactly what is happening.

he wants LucianO.

I want Lucian.

he says it flows better with the chosen middle name, Paolo.

I say, I'll sacrifice middle name to keep Lucian.

we are at an impasse.

I can't express to you how much I DON'T want Luciano. instead of growing ON me, I am becoming more and more against it.

but one of the things that drew me to my husband in the first place is that he can fight me. and fighting me, he IS.

what is the solution? can I write the baby's name Lucian(o) on the birth certificate, so that we are both right?



I want both of us to really love the name. has this happend to anyone...I mean they are so close it's almost silly...but it's SO NOT silly at the same time. it's IMPORTANT.

we may have found a way to agree!!!

dh said he might cave on Lucian, if we spell it with an accent (') over the A.

so, I would be LuciAn...and officially pronounced the way you pronounce the name in spanish LuseeAn.

so, my baby in spanish would be

Lu see An Pa O lo.

and in english

Looshan Powlo ( )

and for his Italian cugine (and hopefully future Serie A club teammates ) Lucheeano

I don't have any words of wisdom...but if all else fails, how about using Paolo as the 1st name. I Paolo!

And for the record, I think Lucian Paolo sounds great together!

OK - I'm a little slow today Can you let us know how you'd pronounce each of them? Would Lucian be: Lou-shh-an or Lou-she-an and would Luciano be pronounced: Lou-che-on-o. Knowing that would help me to decide...

Can you name the baby Lucian (which I think sounds much better with Paolo!) and let hubby call him Luciano? JK.

I don't know. At least you almost agree. We are no where near agreeing. I think convinving him that you suffer for 9 months and who knows how many hours of labor, plus the pain of delivery so you should get to make the final decision is your best bet!

I say cool your jets for a couple weeks and don't talk about it.

When you do talk about it again, if neither of you comes over to the other's side then I would move on to a new name.

On the bright side-maybe it's a girl and all this will be for naught, assuming you agree on a girl name?

Just be sure to be the first one to say his name out loud as soon as he's delivered. Once he's here and you say "It's Lucian!" then that's his name.

It's kind of like the delivery room version of calling dibs.

I agree with you that Lucian sounds nicer. Maybe that is because I knew someone named Lucian and I really respected him. However, I think that in situations where the parents disagree about some aspects of a name, there may be a another name out there that works better for both parents.

I like LucianO better... I prefer the way it sounds, I guess because my DH was supposed to be Vincenzo Paulo & both ended with "o".
