yes...I have noticed the same thing. I drive on the LIE everyday in the HOV lane and cars are up my butt even when I am going 60. Isnt the speed limit 55??? I dont know why people are in a rush..its just not worth it!

I know what you mean, I will be driving above the speed limit & I hate when people tailgate me and seriously give me like 3 inches of space between our cars ... I just go slower

If you all feel as though you should go the speed limit, then I applaude you but, why don't you follow all of the rules.
The left lane is for PASSING, if you are not PASSING move right and let me use the lane for what it was designed for, TO PASS EVERYONE.

Thank you,

Thomas

Re: the way people are driving lately...

Thomas- question- does PASSING mean you get to speed beyond the speed limit though? I dont think so.
PASSING is just the word to use it seems "the passing lane"... it's more like the "speeding through, get out of my way" lane...
I LOVE when someone gets pulled over in the HOV lane or left lane. Chat Icon

The other day I was at the supermarket with my 3 kids, one in the cart, the other 2 walking very close/holding the cart on each side, well some guy driving by, was NOT stopping when he saw us ! come on now, common freakin courtesy...
I slowed down and he HAD to stop Chat Icon poor thing. Now things like that are where I appreciate my husband, he has beyond common courtesy in public situations (almost to a fault) and ESP if children are involved, in a parking lot.

and on the roads also, people are weaving, going from lane to lane, it's disgusting..

another one I was concerned about the other day, an older woman, in her 70's for sure, was in a small OLD car, with a todler (no carseat) and a DOG in the back seat, and I dont know dogs, but it was a bulldog, or one of those "muscular" looking dogs, just bopping around in the back, a child and a dog.. Chat Icon Chat Icon then I saw a few minutes later, just the dog was left in the car, and the windows were WIDDEEE open.. what if the dog jumped out and decided to attack someone walking by ?? (dont mean to make this a dog thread now Chat Icon)
it's about careless decisions that can be dangerous...

Re: the way people are driving lately...

just this evening i was almost in an accident, a woman was driving about 30 in the right lane of the belt parkway way 2 cars in front of me i get off the exit and at the last possible moment she all of a sudden gains some speed and whips off the exit right in front of me and i almost hit her,
then we pull up to the red light (there are 3 lanes) and shes just chatting away with her friend fixing her sunglasses with kids in the back seat i wanted to scream Chat Icon

If I exceed the speedlimit that is between me and the officer / Courts.

This is from the NYS Drivers Manual

"When passing, move completely into the left lane. Before returning to the
right lane, signal and look at your interior rearview mirror and make sure you can see the front bumper of the vehicle you just passed. Glance quickly over your right shoulder to double-check that you can see at least several feet of pavement between your vehicle and the one you passed. Then return to the right lane."

And

"If another vehicle passes you on the left, slow down slightly and keep to the right.
When the vehicle has safely passed and is well ahead of you, resume your normal speed.
If you find that many vehicles are passing you on the right, you should move into the right lane and allow them to pass you on the left."

I hate the "oh I'm going fast enough, they can pass me on the right" Bulls_ _ _.

Re: the way people are driving lately...

it is crazy - i rolled my car over (on ice, not due to speed or anything!) in december and it makes me think twice everytime since....and it burns me that i roll over, but they will be accident free...its not even like rushhour is the worst, its anytime of day (or so I have found out during my schoolyear to summer camp break!) The HOV lane is not a passing lane - you can't just move in & out to pass people or let people pass you. Well, I should say you are not supposed to - that doesn't mean people don't do that.

But I agree with you on the rest of it..stay to the right unless you are passing people.

I don't like when I am going 55-60ish in the right lane and I get tailgated - go around me.

I wish more people knew this -- how many times do you signal to move into the right lane and the person in the right lane speeds up and paces you????

I don't mind moving behind someone but really?? There's no need to be a jerk about it when they weren't there in the first place.
