The wedding dress thread got me thinking..

Would you sell it? It's only worn once. Has anyone on here sold theirs? Where do you sell it? On Ebay? I am thinking of selling mine. The thought of it sitting in a box forever is sad to me.

I donated my dress to the Bridal Garden. They sell the gowns and the proceeds go to Sheltering arms which was an organization that helped lower income children with their needs.

It seems Sheltering Arms closed but they now direct their fundraising efforts to the Brooklyn Charter School.

If one could ever have an attachment to an inanimate object, it's me to my dress. It's sad, actually because the damn thing is sitting in my parents' atticChat Icon Wish I had the cajones to sell it.

Re: The wedding dress thread got me thinking..

I can't sell it for a few reasons.
1. I want to have a christening outfit made out of a piece of the trains fabric
2. my mom spent so much $, to just sell it, seems wrong to me
3. it holds a lot of sentimental value to me

If it was worth a lot of $ and I was in a situation where I really needed the $ and it was going to make a huge difference, I would.

Re: The wedding dress thread got me thinking..

I still play with it. It would break my heart to see it gone. I am probably going to bring it down to Florida when we go up to NY for my shower. I want to get it cleaned, but not preserved. I must be able to feel it. It is also a good weight loss gauge for when I am trying to lose weight post partum!

Re: The wedding dress thread got me thinking..

Lately I've been thinking about selling it. I'd feel sad to see it go but it's just taking up space in my closet. But I don't know if I'd really do it or not.... plus I don't think I'd get much for it either. Still on the fence.

Re: The wedding dress thread got me thinking..

I don't think I could sell it. I've toyed with cutting the bulk of the skirt and train off of it to make a Christening outfit for our children, but I go back and forth on whether or not I want to take scissors to it... But no, unless I absolutely needed money and couldn't get it another way, I couldn't sell it.

Re: The wedding dress thread got me thinking..

Mine is STILL hanging on the door of one of my bedroom closets. Been there even since we picked it up from the dry cleaner after we got back from our honeymoon over 2 years ago. I can't bare the thought of moving it off that closet no less selling itChat Icon

Re: The wedding dress thread got me thinking..

would never. several reasons:
i would like to make a christening gown out of it one day.
i would like to keep 'pieces' of it to give to future children/grandchildren to incorporate into their wedding if they choose (Bok wrap etc)

my FHs grandfather took me in his attic once and showed me his late wifes wedding dress - all wrapped up and perfectly preserved and he asked me if i wanted it. Chat Icon Chat Icon
he said i could do anything i want with it. not sure what i will do with it but the fact that he saved it all these years for when he "finally got his girl" (he only has boy grandchildren) made me melt.

mine is in a ball in the garment bag in the closet of my house.

I HATE my dress Chat Icon am toying with the idea of having a christening garment made...there is A LOT of fabric (14 yds of silk) but not sure where to take it.

i don't want to take it to the lady who made my dress in the first place...she might kill me Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

i want to make a christening gown out of fabric from my dress
if for some reason thats not possibe i would absolutely sell it or donate it, it did cost a lot of money and is now just sitting in a box, i'll never wear it obviously and i'll never look at it again so why waste it, i don't have such an attachement to it, yes i loved it, i wore it, and i can see it in pictures now

Re: The wedding dress thread got me thinking..

I am giving mine to my MIL and having her make christening outfits whenever the time comes. She is an amazing seamstress and has made many outfits for my nieces and nephew.

I probably need to get the thing cleaned though... It's only a year and a half since I have been married. Chat Icon

I am going to keep mine because my veil was lost at my after party and I want my DD to be able to see what Mommy wore on her wedding day and play dress up or whatever.
