I would send her. And what if they don't find the kid in a week? Two weeks? A month?

I just spoke to my mom and she yelled at me for even thinking of not sending her. she just does not understand how bad this school is I wish there was a way to get her into a different school. I am going to call first thing tomorrow morning and tell them i will not send my daughter till I know that this person(child sadly) is caught. I never remember having to worry about a gun at Longwood ever. How in the world are theses kids getting their hands on gun.
Honestly, I think you could possibly have this problem anywhere. I went to Miller Place HS and currently they are having a major problem with bomb threats. Unfortunately, this is kind of the day and age that we live in.
As for how a kid gets a gun, I am willing to bet money their parents have one or more.
Did they say it was a kid? How the heck do they know when they cant even find this person
no they have not said it was a kid. but i really believe it was. and if it was not why would a gun man break out in fire at a bunch of kids KWIM.
BC they are eff'ing nutz I actually dont know if its a child or adult but I would like to think the search is open to anyone being a suspect. Remember that hockey dad a few yrs back that got into a fight defending his child. I cant remember the whole story but I think he killed the other kids dad. Dont remember the details. This was a basketball game the other nite, right?
see a lot of people think it had to do with the game. it had NOTHING to do with the game. it was a fight between to William Floyd kids(gangs)
WATCH THIS VIDEO
Gotcha! Also sounds like they probably know the stature of the person anyhow and if it were male and female. Sounds like most likely it was a kid.

This is why i am worried. this was not some random thing this is kids in her school. and why i am worried that someone is going to retaliate... KWIM there have been no updates from the school on how they are going to add more security or police presence in the school to assure that if something was to happen it can be handled very quickly .

I'm undecided.
The logical part of me thinks the safest place is going to be in school because at this point the gunmen is being hunted. The last place I think he'd go is near the school.
The other part says to keep her home because gunmen aren't exactly logical.
I wish I had the answers for you. One thing I am sure of is you can't keep her home for too long. I think doing that encourages things like this to happen because students have a reason to scare the h#ll out of parents on a regular basis if they can get kept out of school.

That would tear me to pieces...If my kid was afraid...How do you tell your child they would have to do something no matter what, with an uncertainty yourself. I am torn for you!

Posted by KateDevine I'm not saying it isn't real. I am just saying that I am the child of an educator and I would have been sent to school. I think that at a time when a school has something like this is when you need the kids and the teachers to have unity
I agree. What if they don't find the gunman by Tuesday? By Friday? I feel like Monday at WF will be like NYC in the days following 9/11...With so much security that chances of anything happening on school grounds are slim to none. And I think keeping a child at home sends a message that you do not feel school is secure, and that's frightening for a child.
You can live your life in fear, but most agree this is gang related, and they may strike at each other at your local bowling alley, at the movie theatre, at the mall...
Hopefully they'll step up the security following this incident. Sometimes they need a shake up to show how real the violence is.
