Re: They put the poor kid on a respirator and I have to be at work...--UPDATE
Andrew had RSV. It lasted about 2 weeks and lingered for a few more. I hope he feels better soon.
DH is the same way about questions Can you call the ped yourself and find out what is going on?

How old is your son? The neb treatments help tremendously and in about a week or 2 he should be totally better. I Know it's awful, DS was hospitalized w/RSV at 4 months old and the guilt I felt taking the neb to daycare so they could give him his treatments was really difficult. Glad you're going back to the DR. to get the info yourself and I hope he's better SOON!!!

Same here with Joseph.
I would expect that you're going to need to call out of work next week or have someone watch him.
Also call the daycare to let them know.

He's almost 3 months. You took the neb to daycare and they would do the treatments for you? How long is RSV considered contagious for?

Re: They put the poor kid on a respirator and I have to be at work...--UPDATE
Yeah I took a week off work but he needed the treatments ongoing (still on maintenance meds actually, we're hoping to wean him soon - not to scare you, not every case ends up a chronic condition and it sounds like they caught your son early on which is good!) But when he was on 3x/day I had to bring the neb. to daycare for the mid-afternoon treatment. Actually a few others in his class were on nebs also, daycare just needed a Dr. note. It's really just a cold virus but causes lots and lots of congestion and bronchial swelling so they can't always cough it up on their own - but it's contaigous like any other cold/virus, about 10 days I'd guess. Rest assured, the meds DO work and if you have a cool mist humidifier in his room at night that will help as well. Good luck to you both!!
