this "holier than thou" crap is starting to piss me off
oh boy....I should have read the rest of the thread. every arfing day someone is pulling the "holier than thou" card. it's ridiculous. no one is living their life just to be able to look "down" on other people. doing what they do so they can come on here and post how awesome they are.
every day we weigh convenience over what is right/best for our kids. that is the bottom line. it is a CRAP SHOOT.
you don't like the people are MORE VIGILANT with certain things. that is YOUR PROBLEM. don't take it to heart.
I don't get upset about this stuff b/c at the end of the day I do everything that I feel is RIGHT for MY SON.
I bust my *** for him. I would work myself to the bone for him. I endure the hardships..I breast feed, I make his food from organics, I cloth diaper him, I dont' have **** in his crib, I don't let him sleep on his belly, etc etc etc.
It's b/c it's what I feel is RIGHT. it's not being HOLIER THAN THOU. it's about being the parent I want to be and you can't make me feel badly about that by implying I am trying to be "better than" you.
I dont' care about YOU. I care about my son. and doing all that I can. and I sit tight in that. well in that. and only wish I could do MORE.
I cannot help it if that makes YOU feel badly. Generally speaking, if something makes me feel badly, it's b/c of GUILT. and I don't EVER want to feel that if God Forbid, something were to pass, I don't EVER want to say "I should have"
all I want to say is "I DID". I cannot control eveything. but all that I CAN control I will. to my death. for him.
if that makes you think of me as "holier than thou" pass the halo.
good day.
**ETA: I love you Hayley

I agree. you, nor I , nor MANY others pass judgement on people who dont do what we do, yet why is it so wrong to do all we can for our children?
To each their OWN.

ITA!
The only time it bothers me is when the "more vigilant" opinion is delivered condescendingly by a poster...like "I cant believe your let your DC do XXXXX, I would NEVER do that." KWIM?
I agree though, we are all doing to best we can, and we all do our best differently.

I fixed it.
I am not saying what anyone else decides to do is WRONG. what I am saying is don't knock others down for doing what THEY think is right, even if it's beyond what you feel is necessary and good.

while I do agree with Ophelia.. I have to say that, Just like Eddiesmommy, sometimes it comes off as a judgement on others and "how could you NOT do this for your child". obviously not speaking about anyone in particular, b/c I usually don't get into those threads, just an observation.

Sorry, my kid doesn't eat ice cream at 4:30 PM Grandma....not because I'm better than you, but because ****I******** am his Mommy and I said no.....
Sometimes you just have to turn around, walk away, take a deep breath and say f$%K it, I'm his mother and I don't HAVE to give you a reason why.
And if you ever teach my kid to jump off a fireplace 3 feet in the air again, I will break both of YOUR legs.........I don't care if he's a BOY.......

I can see that. but that is why I say, if someone seems to be judging you and YOU feel you are doing the right thing, then eff them. just walk away.
no one can make YOU feel less than. that you do all by yourself. (by you I mean global)
people judge me all the time. ...making comments. I just am flattered that the need to get the dig in there exists, and then I walk away.

Re: this "holier than thou" crap is starting to piss me off
Get used to it...
Things dont get any easier. Just wait til you join or dont join the PTA. You think LIF is bad...
Ive been a parent for 16 years....
There is always someone out there who is going to try and "out parent" you in one way or another....
If I have learned one thing in the past 16 years its this:
"The AAP is going to change their views on things a bagillion times over the years. What is recommended now may not be recommended next year and certainly NOT in 10 years. Laws are going to be created...recommendations are going to be made..the FDA is going to say one thing one minute and change their stance a few times sometimes according to what appears to be public opinion. You will be judged and accused of doing to much or not doing enough. For being too strict or not strict enough..for over scheduling activities or not participating enough. When all is said and done you have to do what works for you and for your family and hope for the best."

Re: this "holier than thou" crap is starting to piss me off
SO MANY on this board read a post and like you said-feel bad or guilty about what they have/haven't done. Then it gets extrapolated to the poster "thinks they are perfect" or "holier than thou." Its all internalizing. You have to make your decisions and feel comfortable with them. Then when people post things opposite to yours you will not feel this because you made the best decision for you and your family.
I do have to say I DON'T feel like this regarding putting an infant forward facing or an 8 month old. That is just plain, reckless IMO. And I will shout it from the Empire State Building....anyone who has done this and not had an accident should be thanking their lucky stars every day...

ITA - why play Russian Roulette with your child's life when it comes to car seat safety?
The mere thought of my child's neck being snapped in half like a twig sends shivers down my spine and gets me SICK inside. Esp if there was SOMETHING I could have done to prevent that.

I think this is the crux of it. most of us go through life hearing about these tragedies and they seem to distant...terribly sad but at the same time, we don't ever really think it can be us.
I don't live my life like that. I never believe I am that special...that protected. it could always be ME or MINE. so my life's work...is prevention before the Grace of God.
I don't mean this to be drama (though my fm ears are RINGING ) it's just sad that we can't exchange ideas/tips without someone feeling "out mothered" or someone else being made out to be paranoid or someone else feeling "judged".
but whatever. such is lif I suppose.

ITA 100%. I don't think ANYONE on that thread "attacked" the original poster for wanting to turn her child a few weeks before he turns 2....it was the 8 month old comment and the person the other poster knew that NEVER had their infant rear-facing that was alarming/concerning to myself and others.

Exactly! NO ONE here can make me feel bad or guilty about how I raise my sons....but it sometimes (depending on my mood that day) piss me off when certain people get on a high horse. I try to chaulk it up to that person being so insecure in her own life that she needs to feel superior to others. And it's not just regarding parenting, it's anything. ehh....whatever. I don't get involved in those types of posts because I know how it can get and it's just not worth it.

of course I do....it's only this great love I have (and none of the money saving benefits) for my son that gives me the strength to tough it out.
btw, I cannot tell you how super EASY it is. really. I kid thee not. you'd be surprised!!!!

I am adamant about this and using used carseats, which I found out can be quite dangerous. My own DH called me a snob because he felt I HAD to buy a new seat just to have a new one instead of using his sister's. I had only recently found out that she bought this seat on craigslist and we were using it for a while!
I told DH that no I am not being a snob...I WILL *NOT* compromise my son's safety to save $140.....that there would be no discussion or even argument about it. If SIL wants to use it that's HER choice., but MY SON would have a new seat. This is being done and that's that. I have never before or since spoken that way to DH, but from my tone he knew it wasn't up for negotiation.
Some people are just too ignorant to crack, and there's no use getting upset about trying to convince them otherwise.
I'm sure MIL and SIL think I am being a snob still, but if your car insurance company will reimburse you if the seat was involved in an accident, is there really need for me to prove it to you further????????
