This is why I don't like those at home parties

I ordered Lia Sophia jewelry at a friends party in October and the woman refuses to give it to me since I won't host a party. I pulled a random ticket that said I was the next host, but my life is just too busy to host a party, plus the fact that I really don't want to have one and I think the stuff is so overpriced for the quality. She said my stuff is in jewelry jail and she won't give it to me until I have a party. I paid for it so I think she has to give it to me. Am I wrong for being mad?

That is crazy! I sell a product and would never do that. I know people can't always have parties and some people just don't want to have parties. I would never hold products hostage until that person had a party. That would make me never buy anything again.

Re: This is why I don't like those at home parties

that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. I have been to those parties, not a lia sohpia but a bunch of other types and they never had a random drawing for who hosts the next party.

You paid for your merchandise and you deserve to get it. she is being out of control

You should call their corporate headquarters (800) 959-3324
Tell them if they don't resolve it immediately you will be contacting the DSA (Direct Sellers Association)
From Lia Sophia Site:
A Promise to Resolve Complaints
If you have a complaint against a direct selling company that is a member of the Direct Selling Association (DSA), such as lia sophia®, we encourage you to contact your Advisor immediately and explain your concerns. If the Advisor does not resolve the problem to your satisfaction, call or write lia sophia and explain the situation and outline the steps you would like to see taken. If lia sophia does not resolve your problem, you may file a complaint with the DSA Code Administrator online or in writing. The Code Administrator, who is not affiliated with any member company, will work to resolve the complaint to the satisfaction of all parties involved. All DSA member companies agree to the honor the Administrator's decision. To learn more about the DSA Code of Ethics and the process for filing a complaint, visit the DSA Web site at www.dsa.org.

I would be flippin mad. You shouldn't have been pressured into pulling one of those tickets but you also shouldn't have participated in that "game" since there is a great chance you will win a party. For her to hold your jewelry is insane and probably not legal! I would call Lia Sophia and make a huge stink and if you paid with a CC you can dispute the charges.

I'd contact the company. What a biotch.

Anytime I've been to one of these things, the seller always warns everyone in advance that the next thing is for a party and you can back out if you want.

Or, you can be a biotch right back, book a party, get your stuff then cancel on her a$$.

Not really, it is actually a lia sophia host incentive. Which it sounds like she didn't explain properly. If you host a party, you get to order a piece of jewelry for $15, but you ONLY receive that piece upon hosting. If you want to pay full price for it, I am sure she would give it to you. But the $15 (or $25 for higher end items) you paid for it, was the host incentive price, if you do not host, you do not qualify for the jewelry at the host incentive cost.

Ugh. I always back out of those games if one of the "prizes" is hosting a party. I have no time or desire for most of them. I would be so pissed if I were you, and I would call Lia Sophia to complain.

I think the OP is talking about not getting the jewelry she purchased not that incentive jewelry for that drawing.

But I paid for it and I have a right not to host a party. I would never hold someone's purchase hostage for a stupid party. Pretty lame tactic.

You need to report this to corporate immediately
Tell her if she doesn't give you what you bought or your money back you are taking her ass to court
that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.
And is precisely why I NEVER EVER attend those kind of parties
I don't need that bull

wait so you paid for a piece of jewlery at a host price and now you dont want to host the party but still get it at that price. Chat Icon

If anything you should pay full price for the jewlery and then get it if you are offering to do that then she is being unreasonable.

if you got no discount at all and already paid full price then she is being a ***** and is not a good sales person

Did you pay full price or did you pay at a discount for hosting a party?
If it was full price. I would be pissed and report her.
If it was the hostess incentive at a discounted price, I can understand why she's doing it. I would tell her I can't host and pay the difference for the full price.

OMG that IS ridiculous. I was a tupperware rep for a while and everyone i worked with said they would never play that as a game bc it puts people on the spot and makes them uncomfortable. I can't believe she won't give you the jewelry though - can you find out who's above her and call them?

No, Lia Sophia ships direct for party orders not to the Rep.

You paid the hostess discount for the item, no hosting no host discount. The reason you got that piece for the discounted cost was bc you agreed to host a party. You can host the party as you had said when you got it for $15 or you can pay full price for it. It really isnt ridiculous. Just think of all the people that would do this in order to get a discounted piece of jewelry adn then back out of hosting.

1. Write her an email. Get it in writing that you are in "jewlery jail". Once she respons you have "proof".

2. Report her to Lia Sophia. She got some big brass ones for holding your jewelry.

3. Call your credit card company and tell them you want a chargeback. The merchandise never came in.

You can call Lia Sophia if you want, but is actually company policy/incentive, not the rep.

Re: This is why I don't like those at home parties

Discount or not.. if you're this pissed (as I would be)

I'd tell her to keep her happy snappy jail jewerly and give me my money back.

I'd make it clear that I would NEVER purchase anything from that company again thanks to her.

Even *IF* it was the discounted price she did a horrible job at explaining it at the party (at the game time) giving an option NOT to be in the 'game' and also obviously did NOT take the time to explain it when called to say where's my stuff. Saying jewerly jail may be cute but not when its my money in jail.

If you paid the discounted price but don't want to host a party, she should be offering you two choices:

1. get your money back; or
2. pay the difference in price for the jewelry.

Demand that she follow through with those two options. She cannot keep your money and not give you any benefit for it.

ITA.

If you didn't pay a discounted price and she's just being annoying then definitely write to corporate.

I used to do direct sales. It sounds like the incentives were not properly explained to you.

At this point, I would lodge a complaint with Lia Sophia, refuse to accept the jewelry and demand a refund. As a former direct sales person, I can't believe this woman would think that you would do her the favor of hosting the party given the turn of events. Moreover, why would she want to hold a party with someone whom she is having difficulties with? Bizarre.
