Those Observing Lent....w/poll

Just wanted to know whether or not you observe not eating meat, and if that includes fish?

I grew up in the Greek Orthodox Church and they restrict from eating meat entirely during Lent - on Fridays - fish and dairy are also excluded.

However, I went to an all girl Catholic HS - and fish was not considered meat, and allowed on Fridays.

Are there any Catholics that do/do not eat fish and/or dairy?

I am Roman Catholic. We can eat fish because meat is considered to come from warm-blooded animals, so fish is nt considered a meat.

Re: Those Observing Lent....w/poll

im roman catholic
my gradparents dont eat meat all lent long

the younger folk including myself only adhere to the no meat on fridays.

We eat fish though

i posted this yesterday...
For purposes of abstinence, fish is not considered to be meat because it comes from a cold-blooded animal rather than a warm-blooded one. Secondarily, early Christian art and literature used fish as a symbol of the Eucharist because the Greek word for fish, ichthus, is an acrostic (the first letters form the word) for "Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior."

Re: Those Observing Lent....w/poll

Christine, in the Greek religion fish that has blood is considered meat..as we know all fish has blood..

that is why Greeks don't eat fish (and meat) during lent (for 40 days)..only shell fish, since shell fish has no blood...it has something to do with Jesus' blood.....

For me as Catholic I don't eat meat on Fridays during lent but eat fish...we don't have the "blood" restriction

Vatican City and the Pope changed the "law" and you are no longer obligated not to eat meat on Good Friday...it is now allowed...but I still don't....
