Thumb Sucking
Sarah has never really had an interest in pacifiers. I bought every single kind on the market (cost me a small fortune!) and she never really took to any of them. She'll once in a while take the Playtex Orthodontic ones, but that's it.
Sarah's now 4.5 months old and ***** her thumb when she's tired or crying. My girlfriend has a 2 year old who never sucked his thumb and she was able to take the pacifier away at 1 year old no problem. She keeps telling me that Sarah is going to have problems with her teeth and talking due to the thumb sucking. Now I feel like a really bad mommy.
Did anyone's child have problems related to thumb sucking? Thanks.

Re: Thumb Sucking
My dd has sucked her thumb since 6 months old and she is now almost 7 years old. The dentist says she will have to have braces and 2 of her teeth have rotted from the sucking.

OMG! Are they baby teeth or adult teeth?
Any tips on how to get her to stop sucking her thumb and take the pacifer?

Re: Thumb Sucking
oK now you have me worried. My son is 16 months and spit out any pacifier I gave him. He sucked his thumb at about 4 months old. It isn't constant, another words if he's playing or active he doesn't do it. He does it most when he's in his car seat, or watching TV or to go to sleep. Also, I myself was a thumb sucker until 5 yrs old, never had any speech or teeth problems. My 2 sisters who didn't needed braces. But in any case, how do you try and stop it?

Re: Thumb Sucking
marissa never really $sucked her thumb but she does takethe pacifier when she is tired I am wondering if I am goign to have a problem with taking that away from her.
the only problem I see with the thumb $sucking and even the Pacifier is that some kids talk with their thumb or pacifier in their mouth thats about it I never noticed any other problems with children otherwise

Re: Thumb Sucking
I supposedly $ucked my thumb and held my ear at the same time...
my teeth are fine, I have a slite gape between my two front teeth, don't know if that is from thumb $ucking
Now that you brought this up Cathy, I wonder if I have my slite lisp from thum $ucking or from learning 2 languages when I was little

Jola: I never noticed you had a lisp. And your teeth are really nice. That makes me feel a lot better!
How are you?
