Tipping for food delivery question.

Im curious how much do you tip the person who delivers food to you (restaurant food: pizza, meals, Chinese, NOT groceries)?

I'm asking because we just had food delivered (salads and pasta dish) and my DH didn't have change some he just told the Kid to keep the change. It ended up being a $10 tip.

The kid thanked DH sincerely saying he really made his night at he has been delievering for hours and only made $9 (this kid really just made DHs night!!!)

I was surprised to think that people were possibly giving is kid $1 tips. Typically we tip $4–$5 or more depending on how much the bill is we usually round it up but no less that $4.

depends on how much food..... I don't think I do 20% though, the waitresses have to work more than the delivery guy does.

I usually give $5 for nearly everything that is take-out tyoe food..sometimes more.

I have a question for the 20% tippers...this just came up recently...

If you have a party to which you call and order catered food, and they deliver it to you. A salad, 3 chafing dishes, and a hero..you paid $300, would you still give the delivery boy $60 for bringing it from the car to the house?

$3-7, depending on how much we ordered.

If we just ordered a pizza, probably $3. If we ordered a bunch of chinese food or dinner for 4 people, closer to $7.

Re: Tipping for food delivery question.

Wow. I am so cheap. We typically tip $2-3, more if it's raining or snowing , a large order or if it's just more convenient.

HOWEVER we live in a densely populated part of Queens, everything is close by, so they're likely coming a few blocks and not more than a mile to deliver the food. I'm not sure if that should make a difference.

Tipping for food delivery question.

the only time i get food delivered is at work, since i cook every night at home. when i do order food to bedelivered (i work in Manhattan) nothing is literally more than 2 blocks away so I will normally tip $2.

Same here! We are in Queens so whatever delivery we order comes from a maximum of three blocks way from our building. We tip $2-3, depending on the total.
