Tipping hairdresser for holiday question
I have an apt for a quick touch up but it's not with my regular girl. Neither are in the day I am going and I had no choice but to go that day. I've never use this girl before. Do I give her an extra holiday tip even though she has never done my hair before? What about for my regular girl? Do I stop back and drop slemtninf off for them. I'm confused about this one.

Re: Tipping hairdresser for holiday question
i never understood this. i think the standard 20% is enough. unless of course you have a special relationship with your hair dresser and want to get her a gift or extra tip?? But to tip more just because its the holidays? I wouldnt.

Re: Tipping hairdresser for holiday question
I would just tip the one time hairdresser normally and next time my regular girl did my hair, I would double my usual tip and tell her you hope she had a nice holiday.

This. I got my haircut a couple weeks ago and just doubled the tip for the holidays since I won't see her again till next year.

Tipping hairdresser for holiday question
When i get my hair done it can cost over $200 - highlights etc. I always give 20% which is $40. I cannot see tipping $80 at the holidays. I just cant!!

Not if it's not your regular person. Maybe give an extra few dollars if you have it. I was watching an etiquette expert on good morning America the other morning and they said for the holidays tip all service folks youbuse on a regular basis the cost of 1 session of whatever it is....so according to him, if your hair is $200, you'd give $200 for the bonus and so forth.....ekkkkkkkkkkk.

I know, I saw that too and have heard it from other "experts" this season! Sorry, when I get my hair done it is always for a cut and highlights and +$200. There is no way I am "tipping" $200! I'll give her extra, but no where near that much! Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought that was crazy!

This is insane. No way would I tip my hairdresser the same amount as my $200+ service. I wonder if anyone actually does this??
I usually give my girl a card, a little something to open (Bliss hand lotion mini set, or nice chocolates etc.) and a bit of a more generous tip than usual but nothing crazy.

Re: Tipping hairdresser for holiday question
My usual color and cut is 150 and I tip 20%. I am supposed to tip 40%? She owns the salon. I have been throwing in an extra ten for the holidays. TIL.

Same here!! I saw that too!! That's insane. No way I could walk in here today (if it was my regular girl) and pay $400!

if she owns the salon you should not be and SHE should not be accepting a TIP. That's is what I have always been told, even by salon owners, She is receiving the full amount.

Are you sure they meant Hair Dressers? I know I give my cleaning lady an extra week's pay at the holidays but not my hair dresser and she and I are close. I give her a bottle of wine and larger tip than normal but I don't give her what the service costs. That doesn't sound right to me.
