Tips for going out the first time after Potty Training?

What do I need to know?
What do I need to bring with me (besides an extra pair of clothes)

How do you handle it if they go to school? Do you tell their teachers to take them at a certain time if the child does not express if they have to go?

Do you have a cover for the carseat? I got the Piddle Pad - will that do the trick?

Do you have a seat for the car? We are taking a long car ride in August so please recommend your travel seat.

Do you put a liner on the toilet in public?

Anything else I should know?

I'll be bookmarking this because I'm in the same boat!

So, how's it been going?

He did great yesterday. Only one accident while I was taking Tyler to PM Pediatrics, and that is bc DH gave him a fully sippy of juice and water and then took him for a walk.

He pooped on the potty both yesterday and today. So my fingers are crossed that this is the start of somethinng BUT I have to say, this is SOOOOO much more annoying than diapers. I would keep him in diapers until 6 if I had the choice.

I have the potette plus--its both a little potty and one that fits on a seat---I will warn you, its pretty tiny as a little potty, but my 2.5 year old will sit on it if he really needs to go. That said, he rarely goes if we are out just running quick errands or something.

Re: Tips for going out the first time after Potty Training?

Honestly, the thing that worked the best for us was to bring a potty with us in the trunk of my truck for the first few months. I'd line it with plastic bags, put her on it before we went into wherever we were going (the store, mall, etc), and then before I strapped her back into the car. I left a big garbage bag in my trunk to throw the small garbage bag into. Actually, sometimes, if I had extra pull ups or diapers, I'd line the bottom of the potty with one and it would absorb her pee so that it was less mess. That's honestly the best thing that worked for us. Sounds kind of gross, but it was just the most convenient way and I never had to worry about finding a bathroom because in the beginning she couldn't hold it very long, so there were plenty of times I was in a parking lot or on the side of a road with her peeing in the back of my truckChat Icon

OMG- I feel the same way about the diapers!!!!Chat Icon

Mads did GREAT yesterday with peeing. She ASKED to use the potty all day ("Mommy, the wee-wees coming out!!!"). BUT totally pooped in her pull-up.Chat Icon

Today she's "meh". She hasn't asked and won't go when I ask her if she needs to.

I have the potette in the car - that works out great - they love it a little TOO much - always wanting to use the potette instead of public bathrooms. Keep a few post it notes in your purse and cover the sensor of the automatic toilets when you are out. The automatic flushers freak them out. They still always ask me in a public restroom "does it flush by itself??".
