Tips for sharing a hotel room with your baby?
I know we are getting a large room-- and we'll have a baby sitter both nights (we are going for a wedding), but I would like to try to "divide" the room-- so it can be a little darker and we won't disturb her.
Are there any products or anything-- besides building a fort around the PNP???

If I was you I would pay a little extra to get a 2 room suite. I woudl never consider staying in a hotel with all of us in the same room(but I have 2 so maybe its different)

too late. We booked ages ago thinking we'd "figure it out". Well now we determined we have to bring her-- there are no other options and aside from the place being full-- the suites are $500+ a night.

Re: Tips for sharing a hotel room with your baby?
I don't suggest this, but once we were in a VERY small room hotel room with my son who was 8 months old. He refused to go to sleep and kept holding out his arms and crying for us, so we camped out in the bathroom for 45 minutes until he fell asleep.
After that it was a suite or nothing!!!

that's exactly what we do! as soon as we put DS down, we go hang out in the bathroom until he falls asleep. we take a magazine or whatever and just wait a few minutes. works perfectly and we've done it a few times.
a suite is not necessary.

Re: Tips for sharing a hotel room with your baby?
we put the pnp in the closet (not with the doors closed obviously) but it was enough of a surrounding to help him sleep.. though he did give us an initial hard time it was more for being in a strange place....
next time we will opt for the two room suite because we had to go o bed when he went to bed.. very annoying

Re: Tips for sharing a hotel room with your baby?
DH and I picked up a bottle of wine and some dessert and hung out in the bathroom to chat.
It was actually very romantic!
Try getting baby used to sleeping with some light and sound going on before you go away.

I agree with the bathroom idea. Make the most of it while you are in there . Most likely though, the sitter will be putting her to sleep though, right? Once she is sleeping, you will be surprised but she should be fine.

If the hotel has long drapes you could put the PNP next to the window and have the drapes create a canopy of sorts around it. My friend does that with her babies when they are young.

that's a great idea-- but the AC unit might be there.
I think we need to be prepared and MacGyver it up once we get there.
It's 2 nights. And we'll be putting her to sleep-- then have a babysitter for us to go to wedding festivities both nights.
I am worried about a babysitter just sitting in the room with her also. If we were just going somewhere-- then putting her to bed, while we just lounged, it would be different.

Re: Tips for sharing a hotel room with your baby?
Can you get adjoining rooms -- if a suite is not available?
We did this for a wedding we had when DS was 6 months old. I was still BFing so I wanted him close, the sitter stayed in the next room with him during the wedding, then we moved him to our room when we got back later that night.
The door joining the rooms stayed open the entire time, though.

the place is pretty booked for the wedding, and the rooms are like $300/night. So, not really an option.
And it's in like rural CT, so there is nothing else around besides similar places and B&Bs.
I just need to get real creative.

What time is the wedding? I don't know if it's realistic to expect a baby to stay asleep while you guys are walking around the room and getting ready, unless you confine yourself to the bathroom. Can't you just have the sitter put her to sleep after you guys leave?

I say have the sitter take her in the stroller for a walk while you guys get ready and maybe she'll fall asleep in there...maybe the sitter can sneak her back in the room after you are out already
Alexa ended up sleeping in our bed last week on vacation, and that was with a suite ...She would never have gone for the porta-crib they gave us

Could you have the baby sitter come and then finish getting ready in someone else's room or in the hotel's public bathroom?
Have your PJ's and stuff and hangers for your nice clothes prepped in the bathroom for when you return.
Hang in there, if it's only 2 nights you'll get through it and get back to normal quickly enough.

Re: Tips for sharing a hotel room with your baby?
We did this in 3 different hotels while traveling in the Spring. We bought a cheap table cloth (as big as we could get, because they are thicker than a sheet.) We thumbtacked it to the wall/ceiling. But we stayed out of the room until he fell asleep.

Re: Tips for sharing a hotel room with your baby?
randi we just had to deal with this (minus the babysitter)
we put DS in the PNP and surrounded it with chairs and tables - whatever the room had. we put our bags on the table to block his view, and draped the comforter from the bed over the chairs. they always have a sheet and a lighter blanket on the beds too, we didn't need the comforter.
when we put him down we had a light or two on and the TV on low, so he wouldn't wake up to us turning anything on. i have to say, he slept really well that way. he woke early the first morning but slept late the next 2 days!

We just put his PNP inbetween the beds. But, I make noise around Jason. I never wanted a "shh must be quiet" kid. I always have it somewhat noisy in the house. The boy will sleep througha tornado. Im thankful for that. The only time its quiet is when he is in his crib. Im no help.

One time, we put the crib in the bathroom with the door open( it was big enough), turned on the bathroom fan (white noise) and it workd perfectly!

Re: Tips for sharing a hotel room with your baby?
we just got back from a mini vacation with our light sleeping 2 year old and ourcry all night 4 month old. it wasn't too bad though. we used a loud sound machine andthat worked great. also when we took ds to aruba we put his pnp in the bathroom. i know it sounds awful but we were able to keep the water running and it helped drown out the noisy hotel, it was totally dark, and he couldn't see us. we had the monitor on and it worked out well.
