Tips for traveling to Italy with a 13 month old?
I need all the advice I can get from you experienced moms.
This is what I know so far.
I bought the Horizon Milk in the single cartons - I am shipping those and diapers to the hotel beforehand. I will also bring the cartons with me on the plane for travel.
Should I bring some pullups that way it's easier to change him on the plane and when we are out and about sightseeting?
We have a portable DVD player.
Extra sheets for the crib.
I am asking my ped if he suggests giving him anything before the flight.
I was thinking of maybe buying one of the carriers for while we are walking around Italy - but he is 26lbs and I think it would be a killer.
What am I missing?

Oh, when are you going? It will be so fun!
As for a carrier-- your DH!! Let him make up for the long days you spend carrying Jack around
Oh, and C and I will definitely come to help you entertain Jack
ETA: See that you said he'll be 13 months, and since I know his birthdate , guess you're going in the next month

Don't bother sending milk ahead, you can get milk anywhere, in any cafe or shop that sells coffee they will have milk. It will cost you a HUGE amount of money to send milk ahead of time (my mom sent me a box of herbal tea bags about a week ago and it cost $9) You can get milk and diapers everywhere.

I figured I could get milk anywhere - but - I kind of like the little cartons since they won't spill in my bag and are just so easy to pop open! My mother is INSISTING we send things beforehand so this is what I came up with! She wants me to send a bunch of his toys -- AND - get this - the little alphabet foam mats that I have in the playroom so that he'll have some cushioning to play on! I talked her into only milk and diapers!

Pullups don't make it easier to change them. The sides don't come undone so you have to take his pants off completely to put them on.
Maybe get a hip carrier? That puts less strain on the back!

Re: Tips for traveling to Italy with a 13 month old?
I just want to say how jealous I am. I love Florence. I want to go back to Europe but I'm too nervous with the baby, esp with the time change. Remember to bring an adapter for the DVD player. I would bring a few toys, some books. Does he still eat baby food? I would bring (or ship) a few containers jsut in case you go someplace where there's not much for him to eat.

So jealous - you have to post your expierience when you get back - MIL was suggesting we all go to Italy next year with the baby - I was wondering how realistic that plan was - long flight and all and she would be 15 months or so...
Good for you for going!

Re: Tips for traveling to Italy with a 13 month old?
Diana...Bring a FEW of his comfort toys..dont go overboard. Milk, you can get anywhere and you can buy a bottle cooler with a mini ice pak, so you dont have to worry about the milk in his bottle going bad. Your going to spend SO much money shipping the milk to Italy, it's going to be a waste of money. Just buy the bottle cooler
Bring some of his comfort food also. The food in Italy does not taste like the Italian food here. If Jack is a real italiano = ), he will love the food in Italy..but in case he doesnt, you have some stuff that he is used to.
Another thing,,,just go with the flow..dont worry about his schedule or his bedtime or anything...This is a once in a lifetime trup, so ENJOY it and dont worry about a thing!!!
ETA: I can't imagine Jack in a carrier, LOLOL!! Your DH is going to need a stretcher to carry him!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Tips for traveling to Italy with a 13 month old?
When are you going? PLEASE make sure that the hotel has air conditioning
Hmm just make sure that when you order water you get "non gassata" otherwise they give you seltzer
Let me know if you have any specific questions - I lived in Italy for a summer and I visit family all the time
oh yeah and sorry for crashing!!
oh yeah something for him to suck on for takeoff and landing on the plane!

I'm not bringing a ton of the milk cartons - just enough to throw in my bag when we are out and about so I don't need to worry about milk. When we went to Savannah the bottles kept tipping in my little cooler thing and it was bugging me.
I was planning on bringing some oatmeal for breakfast. What are some other things you would suggest? I already have a few things of puffs to be sent.

Thanks for the water tips! I'm pretty sure the hotel has air conditioning - it's a 5 star hotel.

Re: Tips for traveling to Italy with a 13 month old?
I think the shipping is not neccesary. And too much $$$$ Milk you can get anywhere...and you dont want to give him too much milk when hes away from home anyway cause its likely to upset his stomach ...I would keep the milk when away to 2 bottles, morning and bedtime ...
Use Water instead.
Bring a carry on with puffs, some toys etc.
ENJOY!!!!

I am shipping the milk and diapers no matter what - my mother is insisting on it. I'm just trying to see if there are some other things I am missing or not thinking of.

My only concern with the milk would be it getting too hot sitting in a cargo hold somewhere? Or maybe that type of milk doesn't spoil if it gets really hot?
