and I think (not positive) that pot stays in your system for like 30 days after you smoke. Maybe she smoked the night or week before? I just don't see someone drinking at 9 in the morning & driving home with all those kids.
With Blood -alcohol level of .19 .......not at all!!!
hmmm. yeah. I guess that is really high. But she had already been on the road for what... 2-3 hours? Something is SO effed up here. Did they stop at a bar? I don't get it.

Something about it didn't add up for me either. That spot that she crashed on the Taconic is north of 287 (probably about 5 miles). I pass it on my way to and from work. But, if she was heading to long island she wouldn't have needed to go north. So, if that is where shecrashed and she took the Tappan Zee, which someone on here had posted was where her phone was found, then she went North and when she turned back to go South was when she went in the wrong direction. So she obviously was "disoriented" for awhile.
Either way it is a horrible tragedy caused by an extremely selfish woman. I pray for the families

This is one of the most disturbing things I have ever heard, and if ever I could be completely angry, this woman angers me to the core......I just can't belive any mother would do this.....those precious angels, may they rest in peace.

Makes me wonder how much her husband & family knew. Clearly she uses pot. It's not like you can buy that at the local 7-11, you need to know where to buy it.

I think what people are fogetting about is the family that are left behind. That husband has to live with the guilt that his wife killed thier nieces and nephews. A son will never know his mother and his final images are those of fear and death.
A brother who will never hold his children again. A mother who will never braid her daughter's hair.
We sit here and pass judgement on people we don't know and on a story that we don't know all of the pieces to.
I pray that we never have to feel the pain that these 3 families are feeling right now.
You are forgetting the families of the other people she killed. They were completly innocent. Minding their own business.

She was drunk and high and she killed so many people and my heart breaks for them all, except her...
They said on the news people reported her driving erratically almost 2 hours earlier as well, trying to pass cars on the shoulder of the road, beeping her horn at cars, tailgaiting and swerving in between lanes...they had multiple witnesses to her driving before the crash.
Anyone who was truly "sick" would have STAYED put when her brother told her too....anyone in their right mind would have been worried sick about the 5 kids in the car and stayed put till help came ....Her actions clearly show she had no rational thinking left.
Disgusting, just heartbreaking and disgusting!

It's just unfathomable. I keep trying to think of "crazy" circumstances where this could happen without her knowledge because I have such a hard time imagining someone doing this.

My God, I am shocked and so, so saddened.
I really did not think it would come down to this. I just can't wrap my head around it.
I know two people (a good friend and my cousin) who knew Diane Schuler personally. They both had NOTHING but wonderful things to say about her. Granted, they weren't like best friends, so who knows the secrets that lay within, but still, it's just so hard to swallow.
I pray so hard for the remaining family members. Everyone involved. This is nothing short of a full-blown tragedy.

OMG, this just made me sick to my stomach. I was hoping that it was some sort of medical emergency that was unforeseen. This is just inexcusable. I can't imagine how the families are feeling now. MURDER. How did the husband let her leave in the morning with the kids??? Unless she stopped at a bar on the way, she HAD to have been drunk/high when she left at 9:30 AM and saw her husband. If he did see her in the morning and knew there was even a possibility that she was impaired, how dare he let those kids get in the car with her or let her drive off and not follow her???

More than 10 drinks in her and smoked pot 1/2 hour to an hour before the crash!!!!!!!!!!! Broken bottle of Vodka in the minivan found....
Seriously nooooo excuses for me, I just can't even think of ANY rational excuses!

Just read on 1010wins.com that there was a broken bottle of Absolute vodka found near the wreck of the car and that the woman still had alcohol in her stomach.
Obviously, this woman had a serious problem. That is the only way to explain driving WHILE drinking with 5 innocent children in the car.
As a mother, I am so angry at this woman for taking away the lives of those poor children and innocent men because of her stupidity. I wonder if it will come out that she was an alcoholic. I keep trying to think of ways to explain this and that seems to be the only reason.

I am sick to my stomach. Just sick. This is the most awful thing. Now it all makes sense. The family knew she was drinking and that's why when she called and said she was disoriented that he sent the whole police force after her. He knew she was drunk and high. The police said that they got very little info from the family.. Now we know why!!

this is what the brother reported after the accident...she was already dead and could not confirm his story. I bet it will come out, that he called her to check on the kids, realized she was high and drunk and told her that he was going to have her cell phone traced. Then called the police. That is why she threw it out the window...regardless...this story is just so tragic for all involved!!!

OMG I just saw the news. This is so horrible and makes this whole story even worse. How the F*** could she get in a car with 5 children!!!
And those other people who were just innocent people!!!
All I can think of is how scary it is that you can be minding your own business, in the middle of the day and how someone else's disgusting act can change your life forever!
This is soooo sad!

I was thinking the same thing, almost like some kind of PPD suicide mission. In any case the whole situation makes me sick to think about. Those poor families ripped apart by this sick woman. I hope they are able to find peace one day

I have no words for what she did, to do that with innocent lives at stake.
I can't get one thought out of my mind either. The kids.... most of them, except the 2 year old, were more than likely aware of her crazy driving and must have been scared beyond belief. I keep imagining them screaming
