Tragic story now filled with questions...
I posted about a month ago about a 2 year old boy who drowned in a neighbor's pool during a block party a few blocks away from my house.
Just the story itself is heartbreaking. Now I read an article yesterday about how there are more questions now as to how it happened.
The little boy must have gotten away from his parents during the party. He wandered to a neighbor's house.
Here's where it gets strange. The little boy only had 1 good hand. Apparently his other hand was deformed from a birth defect. The pool was a 4 foot above ground pool and there was no ladder attached to it at the time. So one is left to wonder how this little boy got into the pool by himself.
In addition, you apparently have to have your pools inspected by the town in order to fill them each season. And this neighbor did not have their pool inspected yet and it was filled anyway. I'm sure that is only going to play into any lawsuits that get filed.
I just feel for those parents who have to deal with the loss of their son, but will now spend the rest of time wondering "how" it happened?
Link to article.
I'm amazed by the comments at the end of the article basically putting the entire blame on the parents for not watching the child. It was a block party. All of us as parents know how quickly your child can get out of sight. Especially if you think your DC is being watched by an older sibling or the other parent. They are suffering enough, no need to make them out to be terrible parents.

Such a tragic story, that poor family.
On a side note, I have never heard of pools having to be inspected each season. I would think that no one would have pools open if the Town had to inspect every single one. That would take months.

I agree.
Plus we never empty our pool- it gets closed with the water in it- or else it would collapse on itself.

I don't know. I've never had a pool. We're in NJ and based on the article, it implied that the pool should have been inspected before it could be filled. Who knows. Either way, sad, sad, sad!

Yes probably before you fill it for the first time- like when it's installed- that would make sense.
yes- totally tragic either way!!
