transition from bottle to sippy and Daycare
Megan is really upset that I'm starting the transition. She'll drink juice and water from a sippy, but won't take the milk. yesterday we went to BRU and picked out a sippy with a straw and a sports type bottle for her to try.
Last night we tried the one with the straw, but she didn't "get" it. I tried showing her how to suck on it, but all she did was chew it.
So today we tried the sports bottle one, and she did get some milk out of it, but was so upset when she realized she wasn't getting her bottle -she wouldn't finish it.
Soo, tomorrow she goes to daycare and I'm wondering how am I going to transition her if I keep sending her with bottles to daycare, but only give her the sippy's at home. Its not being consistant. How have other BTDT moms done this???
TIA

Re: transition from bottle to sippy and Daycare
I had a hard time with DD. She JUST transitioned at 16 months. She got so used to drinking water out of the cup, but wanted her milk in the bottle. Just keep offering her the milk in the cup at home when you can. Use the same cup that you use for water and juice. Eventually she will get it.
ETA....I know they say DD should be on the cup at 12 months, but some babies just aren't ready. DD being on the bottle for a few extra months will not hurt her. Don't stress about it now. I didn't pressure DD until she just transitioned to the toddler room in her daycare....they don't allow bottles. But at that point DD was drinking water from the cup well. So it wasn't too difficult.

Re: transition from bottle to sippy and Daycare
babies & toddlers dont need as much milk as most parents think.. they get enough calcium from cheese, yogurt and other milk based products.
DS was off the bottle at 12 1/2 months (yes i know i am a horrible mother bc i waited those 2 xtra weeks) but with that said... he drank milk from a straw cup, it took him a while like a month or so, but he did.
now at 20 months i am lucky if i get a cup of milk in a day, but my ped said not to worry, bc he eats yogurt everyday.
so, its really ok for your DC not to drink the milk from the sippy right away, but keep trying.
and its best for your DD to get her off the bottle at 12 months and no later.

Re: transition from bottle to sippy and Daycare
When we first started, I packed the milk in the sippys and brought a couple empty bottles just in case for the first 2 weeks. they only had to use a bottle once! Good Luck!
