Transitioning to CPSE
DS currently receives speech through EI. He'll be 3 in January so he was re-evaluated and has his meeting next month. The problem is he tested in the average range on the speech re-eval but his articulation was below average. The speech pathologist thinks he may be able to get speech based on the artic issue. But, the service coordinator said the changes being made to services that the school district may not approve speech just based on an impaired artic issue.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get speech approved for aticulation problems? DS is almost 3 and still has a lot of babble/gibberish and I've mentioned that the articulation problems have impacted his social skills (ie playing with others on the playground). Any ideas on how to drive this home and get him approved?
Sorry this is long but I'd really appreciate tips that anyone may have! TIA!

Re: Transitioning to CPSE
Talk up the social issue and explain an issues he has being understood in school (if he goes). Make sure the district has something written from the school explaining the impact this may be having on him in school/daycare. Be sure to discuss any frustrations/behaviors he may be having due to decreased intelligibility. Different districts will handle those scores differently for a variety of reasons.

There is a more difficult evaluation test, I have to look for the name...you need to test 2 standard deviations below the norm to qualify for one service.

Thanks, ladies!
Julianne, thanks for the tips. I have several examples to give them and I'm hoping DS's nursery school teacher and current speech therapist can write a brief letter stating their observations.

Take. Language sample and calculate the percentage of intelligibility

Wow I feel like I could have written this post 2 months ago. Quite honestly they fibbed on my DS's test and made his artic seem much worse than it actually was. They basically kept stressing how smart he was in all other areas and how he couldn't convey it in words. I used UP Wee Grow and they were great!
