Travel Tips for going into the city? (LONG)
On Tuesday, DD and I are going into the city to visit my DH at his job. Originally, I was going to take the LIRR. We live in Seaford, so obviously, this would be the best station for us to go to- however, there is no elevator.
So now, I have to figure out which other LIRR station to go from- which has easy parking (I know, I'm asking alot for a work day).
The other option is that I drive to my dad's school (he's a teacher) in Astoria, visit him, park there, and take the subway. My dad said he'll walk with me to the subway station and help me do the stairs with the stroller. However, on the way back, it means that I have to drive all the way from Astoria to Seaford- potentially during rush hour.
So now I"m not sure what to do. I will NO help- as I am going by myself. I wasn't nervous until just now. I know DD will love it- so I'm not worried about her- I'm just worried about navigating around the city WITH her!
Does any BTDT mommies have any travel tips or suggestions for me?
Thanks!!!

Re: Travel Tips for going into the city? (LONG)
Im actually venturing into the city in a few weeks to go visit my old job.
We are driving in and parking by DH's job, then to avoid the crowds Im going to try to stick to some Avenue's that I know produce less traffic.

if you live in seaford maybe you can drive to bellmore LIRR, there is an elevator there or massapequa. I go into the city all the time with my dc (she is two), i make sure to change her diaper before we live, have lots of treats for the ride, books and anything else that can entertain her. i always leave her in her stroller and just sit in the handicap sitting when on the rail. when you get to the city getting on the subways is easy, there is always someone willing to help.

Take the LIRR without a doubt - MUCH easier than the subway.
Here's a link to the ADA Accessible LIRR Stations
Once you get out of the train, just follow the handicap signs. I've brought DS in a couple of times and once you realize that you actually are handicapped with a baby, it's much easier
How far is DH's office from Penn? I'd walk - IMO doing the subway is a big ole pain in the butt with a small child. Also, I'd try to time your trains so you leave after rush hour in the morning and make a 4pm train at the latest in the evening.

I've driven into the city a few times with DD (even going home in rush hour traffic). I try to plan the driving portions around her naps and bottles.
IMO, it's much easier for me to load everything into the car than to take the LIRR. I park in a parking lot too.

I am not sure about Bellmore, but Massapequa will ticket you if you do not have a TOB permit. I know that Seaford does not require one, so I just want you to know in case you don't have one.

I have the permit for the Seaford station, so parking there won't be a problem! Its just the lugging the stroller up the stairs with DD and my backpack that I'm worried about.

Thanks for this link!
DH's office is not far from Penn Station, so I will definitely be walking! I'm just worried about if we go anywhere else after we visit him- but I think at that point, DH might be with us, so it'll be easier.

Re: Travel Tips for going into the city? (LONG)
I would definitely take the LIRR. Just go to another station that has an elevator or ramp.

Massapequa train station has an elevator, an escalator (on the far East entrance) and you can park on Parkside along the ball field ..........-

I would stick to the LIRR. Follow the handicap signs to the elevators in Penn.
If he's near Penn, maybe head to Bryant Park & the carousel.
I'm right upstairs from the LIRR. If you need anything, I can give you my cell #.
