Traveling in the ninth month? WWYD?

DH and I have tickets (free box seats) to a a Yankees/Orioles game on May 26th, the game is at Camden Yards. The game is on Memorial Day, we were going to stay Sunday and do lots of walking around the harbor, Monday is the game, and finally convinced DH to stay over Mon. night (he wanted to drive home memorial day in traffic, yeah right!) we will come home Tues AM.
Dr. advised me not to go unless I am prepared to deliver in Baltimore. Too close to my DD. My DD is June 18th but I feel I will go earlier (at least I hope anyway).
Would you drive there risking it???
I feel great some days and good most but do not want to do something I will regret.
What would you do? Would you go? Should I go? Any advice or suggestions?
Thanks for any help, so confused here.

Re: Traveling in the nine month? WWYD?

I hope you don't mind me butting in on this board but even not being PG I would not travel out of state with 3 weeks to go. My SIL delivered our first nephew 3 weeks early...I would want to be as close to home as I could be. (if the game was in NY, I would still go) but travelling about 5 hours away, no way....

Better safe then sorry, ya know Chat Icon

Since the majority of babies born arrive after their pregnancy due date, I'd likely go if it was me.

How are you feeling? Will you be Ok sitting in the car for hours? I am 36 weeks right now and feeling great....Still exercising at the gym (what a sight) and working. It really all depends on how you are feeling these days...and also trust those instincts...If you really think you will deliver really early, then you know the answer.

Good Luck!!! Chat Icon

As someone who delivered early at 35 weeks (an emergency c-section) I would not be going that far from home.

Re: Traveling in the nine month? WWYD?

Even though I love the Inner Harbor and Camden Yards [I went to college in MD for a few years] I would not risk it. I know many people say that first time Moms go late... but in the last few months: my boss's wife delivered 2 and 1/2 weeks early, my SIL delivered 1 week early and my BFF delivered 2 weeks early!! So, though the trip sounds awesome... I would definitely stay home!! Chat Icon

I agree with your doctor. If you're ok with delivering in MD, then go.

You could go early; you could go late. As long as you are ok with not having your doctor deliver you (mine didn't) & being stuck in Maryland for an extra 4 days, go for it.

Things to consider:
It may not be a few days
2 days is a vbirth - no complications.
4 days is a csection with no complications.

I had a vbirth but my son was born at 34 weeks. That was an extra week in the hospital. Going back & forth to see him several times a day. I wouldn't want to be doing that from a hotel room. Chat Icon

I would love to go since you can't Chat Icon
No, but seriously, I wouldn't recommend it. It really is too close to your due date and it just isn't worth the risk. I remember from last time, I could not have sat in the car for that long of a stretch. The last month was very uncomfortable for me. You also don't want to risk having the baby on the side of 95 sitting in traffic! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Traveling in the nine month? WWYD?

I wouldn't have a problem going BUT my only concern is that you do not know what you're going to feel like in that last month. You may feel GREAT and you may not! I would plan on going, but perhaps have DH have a back-up if I cannot make it.

I wouldn't go - sitting in a car for that long at nine months was nearly impossible for me!

Re: Traveling in the nine month? WWYD?

nope... I personally wouldn't want to risk delivering out of state... Also, while the trip sounds like fun, you likely will be very uncomfy... granny ankles, acid reflux, won't be able to sleep well, poor circulation, have to pee constantly... totally not the right condition for even an hour long road trip, none the less going all the way to baltimore...

Re: Traveling in the nine month? WWYD?

Nope, wouldn't go. Just too uncomfortable sitting for that long in a car, in the sun, and just too close to the date. I went early with #1, just a few days, so I know for myself, for this #2, all travel farther than 30 minutes will cease after week 35 or 36.

Re: Traveling in the nine month? WWYD?

I would not travel to baltimore with only 3 weeks to go. I think that's a little too far to be away from home. Not only if you go into labor but also if you have other problems. Chances are you would be fine and not go into labor but I would not want to be 4 hours away that close to my due date.

I would also be very uncomfortable sitting in a car for that long. I know right now you probably feel like you can handle it but you'd be surprised how tough those last few weeks can be. Just going to a game at yankee stadium the other night wiped me out, I was 35 weeks at that point. I was totally exhausted from it.

If you really want to do it, and I could totally understand why you would, I would go to the doctor on the Friday before and see if you are dilated or effaced at all and see if the baby is high up or getting into position. Although that is not always an indication of labor. My SIL went to a doctor on a Tuesday and the doctor said she was not even close to being ready and told my brother that he could go to Vermont and not worry. Well 2 days later she went into labor at 3 weeks early. So the doctors can only guess. The baby comes when it wants to.

Re: Traveling in the nine month? WWYD?

Thanks so much for the feedback and input! I showed it to DH despite him being more upset than I was..I wanted to go but after talking to friends and being on LIF I really don't think it is wise to risk it.
DH will probably go with a friend. At least one of us will use the tickets.
Thanks Ladies!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Traveling in the nine month? WWYD?

Quite honesty, no... I wouldn't. I hated being in the car during my 9th month, and you have to keep in mind that you would have to stop numerous times during the drive to stretch your legs to prevent clots.....

My daughter came 1 week early, and she is my first. I too - starting roughly my 7th month *believed* she was going to come early. So, if that's your gut feeling, I would stick with it, and definitely stay home! Chat Icon

Sorry about missing the game tho....

I wouldn't go either. IN your 9th month you aren't supposed to be more than 1 hour from your hospital.

Last year, when I was pg, I was living on Staten Island and I had to skip Easter at my parent's house in Montauk because it was 3 weeks before my due date and 3 hours away.

Re: Traveling in the ninth month? WWYD?

I had great tickets for the Yankees/Red Sox tix last year. It was 2 weeks before my due date. That was just in the Bronx. And although a great Yankees fan, I did not want to take the change to give birth at the Yankees stadium. I told DH to go with a friend.

The trip is way to far to be in the car that long. Too far from your dr. And a baseball game is about 3 hours.

Not a great idea at nine month PG!

Re: Traveling in the ninth month? WWYD?

I wouldn't.

I would also read your insurance book, because I know in mine (Oxford) there was a clause that they would not pay for delivery in an out of state hospital if I traveled in my 9th month.
