i feel like who i am on here is who i am IRL. i might throw more  into a thread here than i would when actually talking to someone in person, but i think everyone gets a little bolder "hiding" behind a computer screen. for the most part, i am true to my opinions, and i am not mean-spirited at all, same as IRL. sarcastic, yes, but not mean.
ETA: i think sme of my posts may come across as "stirring the pot" so to speak, and that's fine - i am a sh!t-stirrer IRL too.

Sure. We can only form opinions about each other by what we post, right? Unfortunately, sometimes it takes one bad/nasty/stupid/inconsiderate/flighty post to help form our opinions forever... not to say that those "personas" can't be reformed over time....

I think that over time you can get a general sense of the way a poster is going to respond to a thread. This may not be how they are in real life at all, but they may have an "online identity".
It's easier to be mean, sweet, sarcastic, etc. when you don't have to see people face to face. So for some people this is like an outlet.
I also don't think it is a certain amount of posts. Sometimes after 50 you can tell when someone is going to be nasty and rude throughout their postings.
I hope this makes sense.  
I agree with this. I think people form an identity online; sometimes people have bigger britches than others because they can hide behind the screen. I tend to think I am who I am regardless of whether I'm online or not.
But I know firsthand that alot of people can be misunderstood from who they are in real life vs. what they appear online. I had this experience quite recently too

Perhaps I was one of those who did not answer the OP according to my own interpretation of the question. Regardless, my answer is still the same both on the boards and off.
ETA: Interestingly enough, I try to be aware of the audience who is reading what I write and try my best to not be hurtful. There are some who seek attention. There are some who look to be comical. There are some who are needy. There are all kinds of people here and in real life. Thats just how it is.
Personally, I have no need to start or perpetuate drama on the boards or anywhere else. I do enjoy reading others "food for thought." I enjoy seeing how some are able to have intelligent discourse and other times shake my head when a well-intended thread turns ugly.

see, maybe I am confused, but I wasn't sure that this is what the OP meant.
I thought it was more about perception than everyone saying "I am who I am"
I thought this question is more "are you pegged as something by your posts" which, to my mind, is different...
You are correct Ophelia.
But I also know some people answer based only on the title of the thread without reading the content of the OP.
FTR, I did read the entire post, but I guess I didn't answer correctly anyway.
I guess specifically I don't think I've been pegged with a specific persona. If I have a perceived personna, it's unbeknownst to me.

I think how a person handles themselves after an 'issue' with another person (or a board full of people) really dictates what type of person they are...
but that's just me.
first impressions are hard to change though.

I am who I am where ever I am. My opinions on some boards do not always transcend through others. I am very conservative with some subjects and extremely liberal with others. I know some people like me, I know others don't. I'll survive either way.

Some names stick in my mind. Some are trouble makers, some very eloquent with words, some very funny 24/7.
I think someone with more posts has a general style'that is generally true to them 99% of the time. A newer person might be figuring out their style. Now I just need the people that speak eloquently to fix my horrible description.

I dont think so..but I think only the old timers really know a lot of posters. The newbies are going to judge based on a thread or two since thats all they have.
But I know certain topics get me heated and that happens on only certain boards etc...
