ttc and a booked vacation - wwyd

DH and i wanted to stop bcp in December...but we have a vacation booked in February (its actually our honeymoon). As of now we are scheduled to go white water rafting, zip lining, horseback riding etc while on vacation.
we are both ready for children, but we both also really want to enjoy the vacation.

I know there is no right or wrong answer and there is no way to know how long it will take us to get the BFP which is why i am so torn on what to do. Im just curious what you ladies would do...

we can stop bcp in November or December...and see what happens...modify the trip if necessary (i assume zip lining and white water rafting is out if you are 2 months preg - anyone have experience with this?)

or we can wait til January and know that we will go away without a BFP and enjoy the trip

i am so torn...we both really want children, but we both really want to enjoy the trip to the fullest and we know after kids vacations are far and few between!

part of me thinks waiting 1-2 months isnt a big deal, and then the next part of me remembers i have friends that took over a year and a friend thats been trying for 2 years...so the months make a difference

i am 31 and we want to have 2-3 kids

just curious wwyd
thanks ladies Chat Icon

If you're ready, I think you should start right away. If you have to modify the vacay, so be it. If you did get a bfp right away, at least you could still go away for some relaxation time. But at 2 months in, you could also be suffering from morn sickness and that could def put a damper on the vacay. I'd worry more about that issue than having to forego the adventurous sports.

Take it from someone who is approaching the 2yr mark. Don't wait.

I understand where you are-DH & I want kids- We want to go to Europe for our 1 year anniversary in April (7 mos from now) but we also want TTC soon too. Not sure if I want to wait that long!

Personally; I'd probably wait the 2 months and start TTC on your vacation. Especially since it's your honeymoon. And it's not like it means waiting 6 months; so If you feel you can hold off the 2 months it might be worth it to be able to enjoy your destination and all those exciting activities you have planned. That's what i would personally do. If i were just going to a beach destination that meant relaxing all week on a lounge chaise then i'd say start TTC and go away pregnant. but since it will be so active and sounds like a lot of fun I'd probably hold off to go and enjoy the amazing honeymoon and have fun TTC while there Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think it really depends on what you and your DH want. If you feel you can't wait to ttc then don't. You can still have a nice vacation together minus the snowboarding and zip-lining. And I"m sure if you did get pregnant, you and your DH would be so thrilled that you wouldn't even miss doing those activities. But since it's only a matter of a month or two, if it's very important to you to spend your honeymoon the way you planned, then waiting a couple months sounds reasonable. DH and I put off TTC for one month because we had booked a big trip for this past summer. We're definitely ready for a baby, but it was really important to us to have some quality alone time together without worrying about pregnancy symptoms and putting our possible fetus at risk with any activities we might choose to do. If it was going to be more than a month or 2, we wouldn't have waited. But everyone is different, so you should do what you and your DH feel is best. Good luck and enjoy your honeymoon, with or without a BFP! Chat Icon

We got married in July and just went on our honeymoon last week. I went off BC for august and my cycle was surprisingly regular. I ovulated the end of the honeymoon so all the honeymoon Chat Icon Chat Icon was useful!!! Chat Icon I say go off BC and let your cycle regulate then try for a honeymoon baby!!! Chat Icon

Re: ttc and a booked vacation - wwyd

Where are you going WWR? We went in Costa Rica and honestly it was like a lazy river... totally could've done it preggers.
As far as zip lining, also depends on the location. Some are not as "adventurous". Im not saying these things should be done if your pg... but if u start trying and it happens to work out then you can modify anything and take easier/lighter trails/rapids.
I just hope you get to really enjoy your honeymoon and dont feel like you put off TTC for no reason.
HTH!
