turning in leased car early
i don't have the lease agreement handy right now... but I was wondering if anyone knew if I could turn a car in early (my moms) due to a terminal condition - if I get dr's note?

Re: turning in leased car early
I think it depends on the company. My parents tried to turn in my Grandfathers car early (because he developed Alzheimer's) and Jaguar wouldn't take it. They even said they wouldn't take a Drs note. My Parents wound up advertising it on one of those lease take over websites and got someone to take over the lease.

Re: turning in leased car early
it really depends on the dealership more then the car company. DH back in the day, worked at several dealerships. All car companies will take it back if you should go blind, and a few other reasons, I don't remember all of them
You best bet is to call the dealership she dealt with, if you know who they are. if not call the local dealership.

Re: turning in leased car early
I know that with my MIL when she was sick, they let us bring back the car and they sold it at auction. Whatever they didn't get at the auction we had to pay...(the difference between the "value" of the car in the eyes of the dealer and what they got at auction).
This was a Nissan dealer...

Re: turning in leased car early
we didn't give my Mom's back early - after she passed we took it to the dealership and they took it back
I guess it was "early" b/c the lease wasn't up- but we didn't have to pay anything
so sorry you are going thru this

Re: turning in leased car early
Thanks. It is a Honda Civic. The car hasn't been driven in 2+ months and I am trying to cut costs wherever I can, it is getting harder and harder to keep up with the bills.

Re: turning in leased car early
I would maybe call the leasing company and speak to a supervisor and see what they say. If you decide to go through one of the on-line companys that you can trade your lease in so someone else can take it over, becareful because you can still be liable for the payments if they are late.

Re: turning in leased car early
call your bank about this as a hardship...this has nothing to do with the dealer... all the dealer does is makes sure the car gets picked up when its off lease or that the lease is paid off.
