twins in a one bedroom apartment

Help! I am due with twins 7/7/10 and my husband and I are still in our one bedroom apartment. We are looking for houses but we can't decided on Nassau or Suffolk. If we move to Suffolk we are about 30 miles away from my mom and my sisters are out of the area. My girlfriends with kids all said to me that I am going to need help in the beginning especially with twins.

Question, how important was it to be close to a relative after the birth of your twins? My mom is 73 yrs old but can help with the laundry of if I need help feeding one of the twins.

My husband believes that we'll be OK.
I am so STRESSED and told him that house hunting, trying to sell our coop and trying to figure out what to register for is too much for me and we should just stay put in our Nassau County Coop, which is only about 7 miles away from mom.

What to do u think stay put or look for a house??Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: twins in a one bedroom apartment

i have a 2 bedroom condo and only plan on staying up a year after the babies are born. i just feel it is going to be very squished as they get bigger. There will be two of a lot of things..i think we'll be ok the first few months but once they are running around and accruing toys it will become very small living quarters...I dont know the size of your place but if you feel like you can fit everything than go for it....

Re: twins in a one bedroom apartment

I am in a one bedroom apt in Manhattan. It was easier when they were littler. Now that they are 2 yrs 3 months, things are getting tight and we are going to have to move. However, the first 1.5 yrs was a piece of cake. I just bought very square cribs. No fancy sleigh beds or anything. I also keep the cribs in our bedroom and moved a bunch of stuff to the LR. I just wanted to make sure the LR was the LR and that the BR stayed the BR.

It is totally doable! Good Luck!

we are in a 2 bedrrom apt but I have an older DS in the other room, so it is like a 1 bedroom with the babies. it is manageable but i can't see it working for us very long ( we have VERY small bedrooms) we bought a house and are moving soon, but the babies are 2 1/2 months and we could def last a few more months like this easily

you def need some help in the beginning.....esp with things like laundry, cooking etc. b/c you spend all your energy taking care of the babies and have no time to do those other things. if you do move can your mom come stay with you for a little while?

Can't help with the bedroom situation but yes - you WILL need help with the babies in the beginning. Mine are 9 weeks and I still have my ILs come over Tuesday and Thursday afternoon to give me a break and my mom is coming next week for 10 days to help (she stayed with us the first month).

Re: twins in a one bedroom apartment

I can't really comment about the space issue, but honestly, I didn't really need help in the beginning. My mom was going to come for a month but it wound up only being two weeks. I was always either breastfeeding or they were sleeping, so there wasn't much she could do. It was nice that she could make lunch or dinner for us but it wasn't necessary - especially for her to take all that time off of work.
In actuality it would be nice NOW (they are 13 months) to have some help since they are up for longer periods of time, are mobile, etc. I can't do anything anymore.
