Two toned painted walls (UPDATED with new question)

SO , we plan to get miki's big girl room ready shortly. Right now, she has a white chair rail in the middle of the wall which we will be leaving. I wanted to do one color on top of the chair rail and one color on the bottom

we were thinking purple. If I were to do 2 colors, would you do 2 shades of purple or purple and then a neutral like beige color or something else

any ideas, suggestions, pics are welcome

thanks

Update - so I think we are going to go with the suggestion below and paint the whole wall in a flat finish purple color and then make stripes on one side of the chair rail in a satin finish with the same color paint. Would you make the stripes on the bottom of the chair rail or on top

I was thinking on the bottom

TIA

Re: Two toned painted walls

Question-

whats her bedding look like or colors?

That is how I incorporated colors in the nursery.

Re: Two toned painted walls

I personally like the chair rail look better if the colors are totally different (ie: Purple and Cream) or a solid and a pattern .......(Striped top, solid bottom)

Re: Two toned painted walls

agree with AP, about color of bedding..

But a light green sage color would look pretty with a light purple.

That's what we did too. We didn't know what we were having but the bedding had purple and green in it so we did a chair rail with purple on the bottom and green on the top. It looks soooo nice.

Re: Two toned painted walls

We have solid pink above the chair rail and light pink, dark pink, and white stripes painted on the bottom.

Re: Two toned painted walls

I would do the full wall purple in flat paint and then on the bottom add stripes in a satin finish in the same color purple. Just a thought.

yea

I did the same, I used her bedding and did pink and Ivory to match.

My sis is doing a toddler bed for my niece, found this awesome bedding at BBB (bed bath and beyond) and doing a pink and chocolate on bottom.

yeah, miki will be in a full size bed but we need to look for bedding. She does not use a blanket so the bedding MAY be a waste but I guess eventually she will use it, rightChat Icon

Re: Two toned painted walls

I'm in the minority on this - but I never pick the bedding first -
It's MUCH easier to change up bedding than it is to repaint. -
And for a little girl's room (ahem, "BIG" girl's room Chat Icon ) any color you choose to put on the walls will be easily found in girl's bedding choices .........

My DD's nursery is a sage green with a lavender racing stripe through the center of the walls...like a border, but painted. On the painted border I put fairy wallies....

Whenever we move DD to her "big girl" room, my plan is to have purple/lavender, white chair rail, and green on the bottom.

I think I like strips on the bottom but-would you see them? i.e. If her furniture would block them, I would do them on top.

oh, good point. I know part of her wall will be visible but some of it will be blocked by the furniture

hmm, something to think about
