Tylenol or motrin for fever?

I have been giving DS tylenol (.8) for his fever and its really not bringing it down. My neighbor suggested motrin and said it works so much better, but when i asked my doctors about it last time, they said they dont recc it for children under 1. My friend said thats ridiculous that her doctor gave it to her DS and when he had to go to the hospital at one point also received it there. Any suggestions/advice is welcomed!

Re: Tylenol or motrin for fever?

motrin can be givin as long as the baby is 6 mo's and older..it is better for fevers and works longer..i've got alot of experience with fevers..when my daughter was 1, she had severe ear infections, and her fever went too high too quick..i looked over and she was in a daze, not blinking or anything,i called 911,,,she had a febile seizure, brought on by high fever..no lasting effects, thank god...but i was told by doctors about fevers, and mortin..for sure for fevers,,,tylonel for pain from shots, teethings ect...not fevers.

Re: Tylenol or motrin for fever?

When DD just had a fever the other day, the ped said to use Tylenol. He said "well, she's over 6 months, so you could use Motrin, but I'd really stick with the Tylenol unless it doesn't seem to work for her, and then in that case I'd try Motrin". Not sure why he wasn't promoting Motrin as much as Tylenol, but since Tylenol has been working for DD I didn't really ask.

Hope DS feels better soon Chat Icon
