UGH----we have carpenter ants!!!! UPDATE
Eating away at our wall in our living room!!
SUPER!!!
The exterminator is coming tomorrow and it can cost anywhere between 150-350 and we leave for vacation Sunday....awesome timing! I'm praying to god we don't have a lot of damage
anyone ever have carpenter ants?
Update: UGH 100s of them and water damage in our front wall underneath the window, hence why there were there. I'm so annoyed

Terro Traps - especially if you're going away on vacation.
You'll miss the swarm of them & come back to dead ants.

i am confused. i was told (because i get them a little bit - i think from gutters outside) that they don't do the damage, they enjoy the damage that termites do... typically they follow behind.
i could be totally wrong, but that's what i heard.

I just had the exterminator in for them! It was gross!
He charged $250 and he put some kind of gel in the wall. They do a LOT of damage and the way they can tell whether or not your home is "infested" is they look for lots of sawdust.  They like damp places apparently.
Good news is I have one seen one or two since the exterminator was here last week. He said to expect a few over the first two weeks and then they would hopefully totally disappear!

yeah, they like wet wood. i had a small leak, we fixed it and then they disappeared, for the most part. I still get some but i think they are just walking through looking for something promising. they don't last that long in my house i usually crush them then flush them!

we have them too. I haven't seen them doing damage but we had a water leak in our basement and the exterminator is pretty sure that's why they're here.  He put granuales of stuff around and ant traps- no gel that I saw.

recently we just found the HUGE ones in our house  7 overall in the past few days.. but we think they are coming from the outside.. if we see more we will have to call an exterminator

Have or HAD them I should say.
Horrible and they are gross, all big and black...hate them!
We exterminated and he had to come back again.
We also sprayed along the house, House Defense. I occassionally will see on or two. I just drown them in my sink

ughh, i hope you get this problem resolved.. i might have the same thing going on.. you just really pushed me to get an exterminator now
