Ugh... new fence the neighbor's are putting in!
So one of our neighbors had a fence up that separated the last 50 feet of our driveway (by the street) from the side of their house. The fence they had up was HORRIBLE. It was a chain link fence that had a wood picket fence leaning against it and wired to the chain link fence. The wood fence was falling apart. I hated it.
But now I think I hate their new fence more. I looked out the window today to see that they are getting a new fence... a GIANT, HUGE white PVC fence.
Don't get me wrong, those fences are nice. But in our neighborhood where the houses are old and brick, it doesn't go at all and there are no fences anywhere in our neighborhood that look like it. So now we are going to be blinded by this fence... and now must consider putting up our own fence on our side to make it less of an eyesore.
I know, I know... first I complain about how crappy the old fence is, now that they are actually doing something about it, I am complaining about the new fence. I guess I just needed to vent!

I think that's a great idea!
Some landscaping would distract from the white.

Yeah, I think we have to because the more I look at this fence, the more I hate it!
Unfortunately, the fence looks like it is 7 feet tall, so we won't be able to cover up the whole thing.

bamboo grows really quickly and could cover it- plus it looks really cool as a backdrop for other landscaping and flowers hth

PLEASE don't plant bamboo! It is horribly invasive and will be a scourge on you and every other resident who will ever live in your house because it's impossible to get rid of!
I'm sorry to be so adamant but there are bamboo groves everywhere planted by well meaning people but they can quickly get out of hand.
There are kinds of non-invasive bamboo but they aren't as common and won't provide a quick fix for you like the invasive kind.
That said...! I agree you can plant things like leyland cypress or arvborvitae in front of it or even lilacs or something.
If it really is over 6 feet, they may be in violation of your town code. Especially if it goes to within 10 feet of the roadway.

Arborvitaes and I understand it's alot to look at right now but they did improve their old fence with a costly no maintanence one.

That's true! I am just worried that this fence is going to be something that kids may vandalize. It really stands out like a sore thumb and if anyone vandalizes it on our side it makes our house look bad. Let's hope the kids in our neighborhood are good ones!

I agree! My Co-workers neighbor had bamboo and it kept coming up in the middle of his lawn!
It's almost impossible to get rid of!

Where are you located becasue i know in some towns you can't put a fence higher tehn 4 ft to the sidewalk and it has to be a chain link so you can see through it or it can casue a blindspot when backing out of your drveway.

Whatever you plant, make sure you have the height clearance too. I have power lines on one side of my property and can't plant cypress there because it will eventually grow into the wires.
You know what I AM going to plant though? A crepe myrtle. JldDolphin has one and it's a low growing tree and gorgeous in flower.
