Ummm my baby is a giant...kind of freaking out!

I had an ultrasound today to measure my son to make sure he wasn't too small since I am having high BP issues.
Well.......small is NOT the problem. This baby is measuring over 7lbs at 34 weeks 2 days. That puts me about 4 weeks ahead. The perinatologist didn't seem concerned but my midwife definitely wants to consult with her and the OB the oversees them to come up with a plan. I mean if I was measuring a week or 2 ahead I would be calm but almost a full month, that's crazy.
My due date is accurate and my 20 week ultrasound all measurements were on target so I am just wondering what the deal is.

I do not have GD. I did the 3 hour test and passed with flying colors.

My daughter was 8lbs at 40w5 days. When we had a growth ultrasound with her at 35 weeks she was measuring about 5lbs, maybe a little bit over. This is a week earlier and this kid is measuring over 7lbs. That seems insane and almost impossible to me.
They said that it's definitely give or take a pound but at this point no more than that. Even if the baby is over 6lbs at 34 weeks that's still one big baby.

Don't worry too much. I was measuring big with my ds and he was born, naturally, at 9lbs 14oz. I didn't even tear.

Thanks ladies. I'm trying not to panic too much. I think I'd be more relaxed if I was 36w and not 34w and he was measuring this big. I think I go back in 2-3 weeks for a follow up so we'll see where he's at then.
I still have plans of doing it all natural so let's hope he doesn't grow to 12 lbs. Chat Icon

Re: Ummm my baby is a giant...kind of freaking out!

I'm going through the same thing. I had a growth sono at 32 weeks at baby was measuring just over 6lbs - WAAAY ahead of schedule. I also do not have GD and the doctor was very confident in her measurements and did they multiple times because she was so surprised. I have to go again next week (36 weeks) to see how big he is and then discuss my "options." I'm terrified to see how much he could possibly have grown in 4 weeks. Chat Icon

What did they say your "options" might be or they didn't discuss it at all yet?
That's what I'm worried about. I do not want a c section and really don't want to be induced but I would take induction over a c section.

Re: Ummm my baby is a giant...kind of freaking out!

god bless Chat Icon I also am carrying a "big" baby, it's my 1st. At my 1st growth sono they told me he was on the larger side. Tomorrow I go for my 2nd growth sono, I have GD, I'm 34 weeks this week so we will see how much bigger he has gotten, my belly has grown a lot this past month so I already know what they are going to say. I wouldn't worry at all, just think you have a nice healthy baby growing inside of you and if anything you may deliver earlier that's all Chat Icon

I'm terrified of a C-section as well so I will have to wait to see what my doctor tells us tomorrow...

Wow! That's a big boy! I bet they are off by a bit though. I agree with you, it sounds almost impossible. They seem to over estimate size and weight quite often, IMO. How do you feel?

I wasn't surprised for them to say he was on the bigger size because he just feels so big inside me. I am really uncomfortable. I just didn't expect them to say he was that big. I'm sure they are off by a bit but the technician was very good and double checked all her measurements 3 times.
I am just praying he tapers off and comes out between 9-10lbs. I can live with that.
