Update: Male infertility so many question just heard some bad news
Hi guys. I just found out some devastating news today, that my husband has no sperm after doing some testing. We have a full exam next week and I am hoping it is something that can be fixed. I just do not know anything about this and I am in total shock. Any of you have been through this?
Update: My husband blood work came back all fine. Nothing showing what would cause this. I was checked out from head to toe and all is perfect too. Now I am totally confused. has this happen to anyone else?

I personally have not been through this but have read about this issue and the success stories. Hopefully it is something that can be resolved by meds and/or surgery. It must be so scary, but please don't lose hope yet, wait until your next appt and see what options you have.

Re: Male infertility so many question just heard some bad news
I have. DH's first analysis had no sperm. Come to find out it was a lab error (I think he used Quest). They semen should be analyzed within an hour, and they didn't analyze it until 8 or so hours later. I would suggest meeting with an RE asap for your DH to retest in their office. We did that and DH did have sperm (1 million, very very low), but he didn't need to do the TESE procedure. That is an option if your DH doesn't have any sperm, they can go in and try to find some.
FM me with any questions! We have a beautiful DS as a result of IVF, and I know some women on this board in the past have done IVF successfully with the TESE procedure on their DH.

Thank you so much it just feels like i got smacked in the face. We have been through so much and now this happens. Next week cannot come quick enough. My mind keeps racing and I just do not know what to do. I need to be the strong for him and me.

Re: Male infertility so many question just heard some bad news
I also wanted to add that my DH brought his count up to 12 million by going to acupuncture and taking chinese herbs for 3 months, so maybe that is an option if your DH does have sperm.

Re: Male infertility so many question just heard some bad news
mine has low everything. But I want to tell you there are girls on the pg board right now who were in the exact same situation as you and your dh. They both got pg with IVf. There are options for you. I know it's devastating but you can still have a good outcome.

Re: Male infertility so many question just heard some bad news
My DH had a very low count it was 1 million when he did his first SA. One time it was actually 0. He went to a urologist and didn't need any procedures the Dr. said in his case it was unexplained male factor infertility. He did try vitemans and that did not work.
We did IVF with ICSI and now have twin girls.
Sorry you have to go through this. Please FM with any questions.

Re: Male infertility so many question just heard some bad news
My husband also has a zero sperm count. There are many possibilities for diagnosis. Depending on his diagnosis, there are several different approaches. Some can be solved with surgery. Many times there are sperm present in the testicles, but they need to be extracted. My husband has CBAVD, but I won't go into that until he has a diagnosis. Chances are he doesn't have what we do, but your first trip will be to a urologist. Most of these problems can be solved, but depending on diagnosis, you may have to do IVF. I cried a lot when we first heard. Sending you lots of hugs. On a positive note, I am 21 weeks pregnant with twins despite the zero sperm count.

Re: Male infertility so many question just heard some bad news
I don't have any experience directly with your question but I just want to say to make sure that you do your homework, do research on your Urologist and make sure he is the best out there. DH and I were going to a Dr. on Long Island and we have a few male issues going on. They shoo'd us directly onto IVF, didn't even want to discuss any alternatives or look into anything else. He REPEATEDLY suggested that we look into possible sperm donors or adoption "just in case." DH and I were just devastated and depressed.
I did some research online and found a great urologist out of Weill Cornell. We went for our consult and WOW, what an amazing difference! He was so much more knowledgeable and thorough. He sent DH for additional bloodwork and couldn't believe the other office never checked on these things. He gave us great advice and really seemed to be interested in us as people. I'm not saying that he's a miracle Dr. or anything of that sort but he gave us hope and options.
So, don't feel like your door is closed. I know exactly that dark place that you are in right now. Use your resources. Go to someone else if you're not feeling like you're getting all your answers. It will be ok

We had a similar situation. DH has poor morphology (0%) and other borderline #'s. We were told it would be "virtually impossible" to get pregnant on our own and were told to go striaght to IVF by a few dr.'s. DH did some research and found a great urologist who specializes in male infertility. We found out a lot more about his issues and he had corrective surgery. However, we got pregnant on our own 1 month after surgery, before it even took effect. I am sitting here looking at my 3 week old miracle that I was told we couldn't have on our own. I also agree that you should make sure you do your research and go to a good urologist before making any decisions.

Re: Update: Male infertility so many question just heard some bad news
not sure if this helps but my BIL had no sperm released when ... err.. "releasing" - they did a number of tests and found it was a blockage in the vas deferens (sp?) the tube that carries it from the testes to the outside world. so they went in surgically and were able to retrieve some (although his count was very, very low). after 10+ IVF's, my sister has a healthy 4.5 yo and 20 month old.
the multiple surgeries were hard on my BIL but they made it through.
