UPDATE: More creepiness! We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
We just transitioned DD into her toddler bed. The first night was great- only 2 wakeups and went right back into bed no fuss. Last night she was up from 12 am- 3:30 am on and off every 10 minutes and she would say "no like ho ho (Santa) ho ho scare me"
This morning during potty time, she said "man scare me" I said "what man?" She said there was a man in her room last night. I asked who he looked like and she said "Like Nanny (grandma). Not expecting that I asked what color hair the man had and she said "white"
DH's grandfather, deceased for 7 yrs now had a full head of pure white hair. We showed her a picture with him in it this morning and she pointed and said "man".
Now she is terrified of her room and won't be in it alone. Any suggestions on how to handle- whether you believe or not?

no advice but that gave me chills.
Maybe try explaining who he is and that he's not there to scare her. I would go in the room and say out loud ok "DD needs tot go to bed please stop."
I know I sound crazy but my sister had a problem with my nephew up and "talking, laughing, and would not go to sleep." Every night for a while she would say" He needs to sleep and it would stop.
Again I know I sound crazy but I am really not

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
Well I dont know how you feel about ghosts.. but..
Show her who grandpa is.. how much you loved him, how much he loved you. Show her how much he cares for her even tho he can't be here. Love knows no bounds. He's always with you and loves both of you very much. Id show her pictures of you and your Dad together etc.
but that's me.
Grandpa never means harm or to scare. Just to love and protect.
IF its grandpa she's seeing. Could be something on TV that she's associating with the photo. AJ is very observant and I notice she'll notice people and things in the background of real life and TV and then mention them again but can only associate them to things we can show her (grandpa, auntie etc) She even once told us grandpa was at the store because a man had white hair and glasses and was heavy set. it obviously wasn't my father.
ETA: sorry i meant show her how much he loved his son.. haha I was thinking of my own living father and deceased grandmother.. sorry about that.

I totally believe in all this stuff. I am actually Jewish but my DH is Catholic....I asked him for advice and suggests if your comfortable to bless the room with holy water before beditme every night....and your daughter....as for her being afraid, etc...I agree w/ everyone else's suggestions as explaining who Grandpa was, etc....good luck and please keep us posted!!

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
Wow, I totally believe in stuff like that. When my cousin was just 3 she came out to breakfast and said, "today is nana's birthday." Her nana died when she was much younger. My aunt had to check the calendar and saw that she was right. She asked how she knew that and my cousin said, "nana told me last night."
I don't know how to handle getting your DD to not be afraid of her room. But I think explaining that he's friendly, not scary might help a little. Good luck!

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
DS (2.5yrs) has been asking for quite sometime now..."Who's that?" and then the spirit must move because then he'll run into the other room and say "Who's that?" Kind of like he's following him.
I'm very comfortable with nowing spirits are around so I ask DS questions. I say is it a boy/girl. He usually says boy. I say is he happy. DS will say yes and start laughing. I'll then ask if he's nice. Most of the time he'll say yes. Then I just tell DS if he's ever mean to you just tell him to "leave me alone" and he will. DS seems to understand me and says ok.
As long as the "ghost" isn't out to hurt anyone then I am completely fine with it.
ETA: I think may be you can show your DD that you are not afraid and ask questions. She may see that there's nothing wrong with it (even though you may really be scared). I hope it works...good luck!

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
Another reason why I believe she really did see someone was that when she was a baby and I was up at 3 am one morning BF'ing her, she suddenly stopped, turned in the opposite direction and looked at the corner and started giggling.
Exhausted I kindly said "Whoever is there, I know you just want to see the baby but it's feeding time. Can you please visit during the day?"
And just like that, she turned back and fed.
Maybe my daughter has the "gift"
Last night nothing....so far tonight its ok. She still talks about it though. I want to buy a cross for her room- a belief carried over from my childhood.

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
I totally believe in this stuff! My 4 1/2 month old DD stares and laughs and giggles at nothing. I firmly believe that it is my mom playing and talking to her. She died unexpectedly 3 weeks before DD was born. I agree with the other girls. Tell her all about her grandpa and how much you all loved him. That may make her feel less scared.

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
My grandma is in a nursing home. For a while shenwas touch and go. She told me thatnshe saw my grandfather ( who passed 10 years ago) in a dream and he said he saw ds playing in his room. He also said he was "so handsome" i have a pic of my grandpa in ds room, because my grandfather was just the most wonderful man ever. We always talk to Pop Pop.
A few weeks later I hear ds on thenmonitor for naptime say POP POP clear as day. I knew he was in there with ds. It didnt freak me out, I was thrilled. I knew he watched him, and made me feel better.

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
I love these stories...We often hear ds talking/playing/laughing hysterical in his crib in the morning and sometimes in the middle of the night we'll hear him start laughing so I wonder if he's in there by himself. His grandma (dh's mom) has passed away and dh's grandma actually passed away IN our home, so sometimes I wonder if they're in there visiting with him... My brother doesn't like to talk about it at all, but he used to see our grandfather (among other people) OFTEN when we were little...it runs in the family on my dad's side, so it's possible...
ETA: If a cross would make you feel better, then I'd definitely get one. Other than that, I'd just do what some of the pp's have mentioned. Tell the spirit that it's bedtime & she can't play/needs her sleep and talk to your daughter about how those who visit us do it out of love, but that if the "person" is bothering her she should tell him to leave her alone. GL

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
i have a history of encounters with Ghosts. They seem to like me for some reason.
I lived in a VERY haunted apartment in San Francisco, the whole building was haunted but my apartment got it the worst. My roommate and I had big problems with this ghost, but he was obsessed with me. He would say my name, blow in my ear. At night he would get into the face of my roommate and make chopping noises in the kitchen. There are so many stories I can't even write them all out!
We could some times calm him down by talking to him and asking him to leave us alone. So if this is in fact her grandpa I am sure he will leave her alone if you ask.

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
I believe in this, and yet it scares me to death. I believe my step-father who passed away a few years before my dd was born is a constant presense in her life. SHe will stop and just start talking and laughing to "nothing" Her mobile would go off for no reason in her room, and as a little little baby she would just stare straight up and smile. When she gets older I plan to explain to her who he is and anybody else she may see. I don't want her to be afraid, but I also want her to know it's ok to ask them to leave. I also say a prayer every night asking that any evil that is inside or around us to be gone. Having the power to feel protected has helped me and I plan to do that to help her. I think that spirits don't mean harm, but I also think most don't know that they can and do scare you. I want her to understand she is safe.

I would tell her that that is her Grandpa and that he will protect her. Explain who he is to you and how much he loved you and therefore loves her too.

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
The creepiness just continues- I couldnt make this stuff up if I tried!
SO DD has calmed down- only every now and again mentioned the "man"
But 2 nights ago, I stayed up late after DD and DH went to bed. Washed up and walked past my attic door ( it actually looks like a mini-door about 5 ft up on the back wall of our hallway)
I go to bed and we have a house exhaust fan on to pull the hot air out of the house. I was lying in the dark when I SWORE I heard light footsteps on the stairs. I put on my glasses to check it out and the freakin' attic door is wide open!
DH was like "It was the house fan- it must've sucked it open" BUT there are 2 sets of doors - one decorative like shutters and opens out into the hallway and the other opens into the attic!!!! Plus, there's a hook lock! Now explain that one!

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
I definitely believe in this!!
A few days ago, I was putting both boys to bed (they share a room) and the 3yo was already in his bed but I was singing to the 1.5yo in the rocking chair and in the middle of a song he sat straight up, pointed to the ceiling in a corner of the room - waved, said Hi and blew a kiss with a GIANT smile on his face. I asked him who was there and he said his usual, "Da" (which he says for EVERYTHING) and smiled, pointed, and blew another kiss. Very weird.
Then last night DH and I were sitting in the living room near the boys' open toy chest -- a Lightning McQueen talking car (which was NOT on the top of the toy pile) randomly turned on, drove in reverse up and out of the pile of toys and propelled onto the floor next to the toy chest and said, "Whoah, must have taken a wrong exit." I could explain it if the dog walked past it or if we had a roll of thunder that disturbed the toy pile but hard to explain!!

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
I won't lie...this stuff freaks me out.
I think your DD's reaction will depend on YOUR reaction. If this were me, I'm not sure what I would do, because it really bothers me. Not sure why. Just the IDEA of ghosts really gets to me. But, as others said, if you feel it's your grandfather visiting (and you seem ok with that), I think it would be great to reassure your DD that it's just him checking in on her.

Re: We think DD saw a ghost in her room last night!
When I was little - I woke one morning - came to the breakfast table and started singing in Swedish....(my grandma was from Sweden) and my parents jaws dropped and asked 'where did you learn that song' and I replied 'oh, from grandma, she came to visit me last night'.
From what I have been told this happened like 2 more times. My grandma died after I was born...
and I totally believe !!!
