Oh Noreen my heart is breaking for you and Jacob. I wish I was in NY so I could help you. I pray that DH gets approved for the surgery quickly and that it helps him. Please FM me if there is anything I can do from afar or if you need a shoulder to cry on. Dealing with mental illness is beyond the realm of what anyone can imagine.

could you use any meals cooked for you? I cannot organize it b/c of the babies but I can cook , if it would help you, we could figure out something? You need to have your life made a little bit if not a lot easier right now!
A home cooked meal is a great thing, I could definately help and make a meal. Im sure you are tired by the time you get home from work.

I am so sorry you are going through this...my heart aches for you and Jacob. I really hope your DH changes his mind and has the surgery because from what you describe he has no quality of life. I hope the new Year brings good changes for your family

Happens quite easily these days.. just to answer a few questions, DH cannot be left alone with Jacob. Its not safe for Jacob. DH is so caught up in rituals, he pays no attention to Jacob and if he does, he yells at him because Jacob is trying to get attention from DH and DH is so consumed by his OCD, that he finds Jacob annoying. Sad i know..
DH is also on a treatment plan while awaiting approval for surgery. He's been on one for years now. 15 Psychiatrist and psychologists later, hes been on every drug there is, and none have helped in the slightest. He does get disability, but not Medicaid. they said he is not elegible, because my income is too high to qualify. His parents pay for his health insurance. I tried to get him into an outpatient behavioral health program but I only found one and its only for 11 days. One thing ive learned since this happened is that the mental health portion of healthcare is a disgrace.. especially in this state. Most places wont take him because he is not "suicidal" or "homicidal".. doesnt matter that he has no quality of life, lost like 40 lbs.. barely showers, eats.. etc.. they dont care. Its like I keep running into dead end after dead end. It sux..

When did you apply for MCD? before or after his disability was approved. I am not an expert in this area, but I believe there are 2 types of MCD, one that is based on income, and 1 that is based on disability. Now that he was approved for disability, he should be able to get MCD, I think the form his MD has to fill out is a "486", but not 100% certain. He also may now be eligible for Medicare.

I am so sorry for all you are going through. I live pretty close to you, and if you are in a jam one evening, I could certainly help if its not a night i have school (off for January though)...I have a little boy too, so they would have fun together. So sorry for all you are going through. My Ex Husband had some serious mental issues also, and it was just beyond difficult to manage...I wish you the best, and i hope they find something to help your DH.

I'm so sorry that you are dealing with all of this. You sound like an amazing mother and I'm sure that your son will recognize this in the future when he gets a littles older (we all see it now).
I saw one of your replies and I noticed that you wrote about mental health coverage or lack therof. Check into coverage again. I know there have been bills passed regarding mental health parity and mental health services are now supposed to be covered to the same extent that medical services are. I hope that something can eventually be done to help you DH. Oh, and you really should be in therapy (as should your DS). This is a lot for you to have to handle on your own. Also, your DS is being affected and it might be helpful for him to see someone for play therapy to help him express his own feelings regarding the situation. Look into psychological services that may be offered in universities that have psychology master's and/or doctoral programs and also local hospitals that take psychology interns and externs (that's how we get trained, by working at school/hospital sites). Most of these will have a sliding scale.
There is a psychological services center affiliated with Long Island University where doctoral students train. They offer services on a sliding scale. They see children, adults, families, etc. It was in Roslyn when I was there but they might have moved to Brookville again, not sure. If you are interested FM me and I will get you the info. You may be able to both get apptmts at the same time this way you don't have to worry about finding a babysitter for your DS as you'll each be attending your own individual therapy concurrently.
