Sophie, I'm sorry the MDs couldn't just tell you that EJ will be A-OK in no time. Have faith in the ID MDs - all the ones that I know are very good (they're all for adults though, no peds, so I can't offer a recommendation).
I will keep you and EJ (and your DH) in my thoughts as you make your way through the weekend and struggle through Monday, to get to Tuesday. I hope happy answers await you.

The ped called. It appears that it is a contaminant from the blood culture. The contaminant is usually found on the skin so that would mean they did not clean his arm properly.
Because we are seeing the ID dr on Tuesday and we will redo bloodwork then and we don't need to see the Ped before that. The bloodwork will hopefully confirm it's just a contaminant and why he is getting those fevers too. I still have to monitor DS for any high fever, personality change and anything abnormal until then.
So it is still just a contaminant.

Damien had a fever that went as high as 104 for 2 weeks on and off. He had tons of tests and we never found out what it was. They just said it was a virus that had to run it's course. He was 2 years old at the time and it was so frustrating not knowing what was wrong. I hope you find an answer soon!
