UPDATE! This is awful...but I feel terrible...

My neighbor is moving out of state and for some odd reason or another she is NOT taking any of her pets. I feel awful and the thought makes me sick, but she's giving them all away.

She has a cat, a dog and a fish tank full of fish. The cat is an older cat and the dog is a purebred pomeranian.

Anyone interested at all??? Know anyone interested???

Please help!!

Re: This is awful...but I feel terrible...

I'm sorry I haven't answered, I've been going crazy with this dog.

So, I come home from work on Thursday and I see my neighbor pulling away, with her entire family in the car (yes, she's married with TWO KIDS) and she has the dog on her lap. She stops her van and says "are you going to take him?" I look at his tiny face and say, you know what? YES. So I grab him out of the car. I put him down to put his leash on and they start pulling away. He gets away from me and starts chasing their car and barking Chat Icon I felt so bad for him. So I bring him into my yard and I'm trying to figure out what on Earth I'm going to do with this dog. I'm so scared to bring him into my house because of my cats. He starts scratching up a storm so I tell DH to go to Petco to get some dog bowls and shampoo (they gave us a small bag of food with the dog, his collar and leash). So he calls me from Petco and says there's a lady up there who will foster him and we need to bring him up to Petco.

So we bring him up there and everyone is falling all over this dog, so I start telling everyone "he's up for adoption!" So, many people are interested in him but then this one lady in particular takes an interest as well as the girl behind the register. Apparently this Pomeranian is rare because he's mostly white with the apricot/tan just on his ears. The one lady looks at the dog (she's there with her dog) and starts telling me her 13 year old daughter wants a Pomeranian badly. So we go outside and her dog (standard poodle) and 'my' dog start sniffing each other...seem to get along fine. She takes the dog from me and takes my phone number. Two hours later she calls me and says the dogs are fighting and that her dog is literally trying to eat the pomeranian, so we meet up and I take him back. I bring him to my friend's house because I'm too afraid to bring him home. Friday I decide that I'm going to try to bring him to my house, so I go to my friend's house and get the dog. I get him all the way home and my friend calls me back and says she found him a home. So I drive back to her house and wait for her mom's friend's daughter to show up with her 3 kids to take the dog. They all get there and her 3 year old daughter is so frightened by this dog I think its a dealbreaker. The little girl was crying and freaking out every time the dog barked (and he's a small dog so he likes to act like a tough guy outside). But they end up taking the dog anyway. I see the lady the next day (Saturday) at a party at my friend's house and she says she doesnt know if the dog is going to work out! Chat Icon She says the little girl is still terrified. She says she's going to call me and let me know. I'm so upset by all of this, this dog being bounced around all over the place he's probably so confused and upset.

Anyway, I know the girl at Petco is still interested in the dog...but in case that doesn't work out, or this other one doesn't work out, I'd still like to have back-ups. Here is a picture of him...

He's 18 months old, about 18lbs, grew up with cats and kids, up on all his shots and a real doll. I honestly really wish I could keep him but my cats will freak out and I think I'm out of the house way too long for him.

ETA: I have no idea what happened to the cat. She told me she left it in the yard with some food and that was that. I was looking for it the other day but couldn't find it. This cat was basically an indoor cat and it has been pouring. I don't want to go into their yard to see about the cat's food, but I might have to...maybe put down more food.

omg this story has made so effing Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon . thank goodness you were able to take the pomerian from her and try and do the right thing. i'm sorry for your neighbor is an AWFUL and terrible person. she didn't even make an effort to really find a home for her animals!!! heck i bet if you weren't around when she was driving away--she probably would have just dropped the dog off somewhere. leaving the cat outside with a little food and water??? ugh i get that things happen and people can't take their animals with them or whatever, but they way she acted is just disgusting.

i hope you can find a home for the little guy---the pomerian is adorable

Re: UPDATE! This is awful...but I feel terrible...

Please keep an eye out for the cat. A housecat will likely die being put outside. I want to KILL this lady, what the EFF Is wrong with her? I hope she rots in hell, what a POS AHOLE. I could go on and on. She deserves a cruel fate for what she has done. I am furious, I can't contain myself. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think it's wonderful you are trying to help but please just be careful of who you are giving the dog to. I would rather see you give the dog to someone on here, b/c the reality is the next person if they aren't ready for the dog may just dump the dog also and the dog could suffer a crueler fate in the wrong hands.

You will find him a home, you are being a wonderful human being to do this for this dog. This dog deserves better than to go from home to home now, esp since the only family he has known just dumped him. OH I AM SO MAD!!!! I bet if you didn't take him, she would have just dumped him on the street!!!!

Maybe we can help you? I am sure many on here can suggest what your next steps should be.Chat Icon

Re: UPDATE! This is awful...but I feel terrible...

So far the ppl I gave the dog to, one had a dog already, and the dog was very pampered. She was in petco with the owner and she was just being groomed and had bows in her hair and they were buying her toys and treats...that's the only reason I let him go with them.

The other people are friends of friends, so I figured they would be okay. As far as if this home doesn't work out, I have been talking to a few people on here who could possibly be interested, and also a girl that works in Petco, her mom wants a Pomeranian badly, so I'm hoping that that could work out as well. At least I know where to find her and how to check up on him.

Honestly, I told DH if the dog comes back again that I think he's destined to be ours. He was none too thrilled to hear that out of my mouth, but I'm concerned. I know my cats will get used to him but I'm concerned about being out all day long. I know they need a lot of attention.

And I really lost all of my respect for my neighbors. They were actually "friends" of ours, now, not so much.

Re: UPDATE! This is awful...but I feel terrible...

Well, you are just not going to believe this one.

So far the dog is still at the second house we gave him to. Today is the real test because the mother went back to work and the grandmother is home alone with the 3 kids. We'll see how that goes...

BUT -- the previous owner called me last night! I couldn't believe it! She wanted to find out what was happening with the dog. I told her all this poor dog had been through and how upset he was. I was trying to make her feel as awful as possible. She sounded very sad, but not sad enough, IMO. She then asked me IF I'D BEEN FEEDING HER CAT. UMM...WHAT??? When I asked her about cat and whether or not I should go over there to leave food for her, she said she had something where the food just dropped down. So, when she asked me that, I said, um...you told me you had something for her over at your house. She said, no, I just have a plastic container of food and a bowl. If I left food out there would be a million cats over there. Okay, so what has this cat been eating for nearly four days????? So of course I immediately hung up with her (now this is at like 9 at night and its pitch dark out) and I'm going over to her house and looking around for the cat. I found where she left the food and poured some in the bowl (well, it wasn't a bowl, it was a gladware lid Chat Icon ). I'm calling around for the cat and didn't see it, so I don't know what else to do. I intend to go over there now and make sure that the cat gets fed. Apparently I was wrong, the cat is an indoor/outdoor cat and she didn't take it because where they are there are coyotes Chat Icon Okay, so why can't you make the cat an indoor cat? I got no straight answer for that Chat Icon And they didn't take the dog because they took over an apartment that her SIL moved out of and they couldn't have a dog. Still doesn't explain why they couldn't find this dog a home in 3 weeks, and why they didn't just bring him to a shelter rather than trying to take him to a pound. Either way, I hope the dog is in his forever home right now. And I guess I will be feeding the cat from now until forever, unless I can find her and bring her to a shelter. I'm just disgusted by this entire thing, honestly. Chat Icon

Re: UPDATE! This is awful...but I feel terrible...

OMG! You are amazing for taking care of the dog and trying to look for the cat. I just can't believe some people. I guess we don't understand them b/c our animals are our family. I would never do that. When we moved, so many people asked if we were taking the dogs with us. I was shocked. I never even considered not.

When we were looking for houses on LI, my MIL offered to turn her house back into a 2 family so we could live there and save money. We could live upstairs and she would live downstairs but.....we would have to get rid of the dogs. We could keep the cats but not the dogs. I told DH to tell her that I would put her in a home before I rehomed my dogs!!!

I hope this 2nd family works out.

What is wrong with people? Why do they go out and get animals and not think of the responsibility? It is not the same as buying a carton of milk. How disgusting she drove away like that. Heartless!
