UPDATE What would you pay? (Childcare question)....
For a family member (aunt) to come to you to care for 2 children (2 yrs old and infant - 4 months or so). Hours would be 8AM-4:30PM or so. What's fair/reasonable/worth her while?
UPDATE: After going back and forth on what our needs are, and offering her $125/day, she said she actually was looking to start sooner rather than later (like next month) so it won't work I guess it doesn't matter b/c we're all set with our situation and happy with daycare, but knowing I'm due in November, I'm not sure why she ever had the conversation with me since clearly I won't need her for a bit. I was a little excited about the prospect about not having to pack 2 kids up in the morning and having the new baby home in his/her infancy, but that's ok.

i dont really know...that's kinda tough to say. I paid my aunt $45 for one from 7:15 to about 3:30. So maybe $60 or slightly higher?

Maximum 4 days a wk, most weeks less. On average 2-3 days a week but she'd have to be available up to 4 (then I'd give her an advance idea of when we need her). In this situation, I would suggest a minimum.
For example, if I gave her $100/day, then I'd guarantee $1000 for the month or something like that - so she has some sort of steady income to count on.

And she comes to you? I was thinking more in the $75-$125 range - but I have no clue. This is just something I'm tossing around and still not sure how I feel about it, so I'm just gauging numbers and other factors to consider.

oh, sorry i missed that part, she didn't come to us, i dropped dd off. So myabe $75ish is better. It's so hard and a little awkward to figure out money with family members, at least that's how i felt.

I know, that's why I figured I'd get some ideas on here since I'm clueless and would want to make it worth it to both of us.

If we really are both considering this as a workable situation, I def. would. I don't want her to throw out a ridiculously low number just b/c I'm family -- I want to make sure she gets what she deserves.
What would people pay if it wasn't a famiily member I guess I should ask? Then I can go from there in gauging what I can do.

Re: What would you pay? (Childcare question)....
I would say about $100 per day, figure 8.5 hours x $12 per hour = $102.

Re: What would you pay? (Childcare question)....
I had a 14 year old ask for $10 an hour.
I would think that $15 is the standard for a real grown up.

Right, but I think there is a difference b/t a teenager sitting on a Saturday night and a regular childcare job.

I think that seems extremely high - I know if you break it out per hour, it seems okay but $500 a week for FT? That is like 2x as much as many daycares

Re: What would you pay? (Childcare question)....
We offered my ILs $40 a day before they started watching Kaydyn. They refused but what if you talk to her and determine her need. My mom has been offered an early retirement package at her job but she would still need to bring in some income until she's 62. So if she takes the package and watches DD we would work out an amount based on what she needs.
If she doesn't "need" a certain amount then I would say about $75 a day or so.

Re: What would you pay? (Childcare question)....
We pay my nanny who comes to my home $10 / hour for one infant.
I know that for the other family she works for, she gets paid $12 / hour to go to their home for 2 children ages 11 months and 2 years old.
Would this work out to be cheaper than daycare would cost you?

No, unfortunately it's not. Daycare is going to cost me over $550/wk right now.
And I wouldn't need her 5 days a wk so it would actually be significantly less for me.

Yes, I'll be paying over $550/wk at my center and it's actually a quite reasonable one. If I did go this route with my aunt - which I'm still not certain she'd be willing to do, or I'm interested in, I'd probably guarantee her $1000/month and offer a day rate of something like $100 since I'd really only need her between 8-14 times a month or so. I'd say, on avg 2-3/wk.

It's less than $12.00 a day - for two kids...and she has the comfort of knowing that her aunt is watching them.
Also, since the days won't always be set her aunt will need to be more flexible.
JMO - but this is what I would offer to pay, and take it from there!

Re: What would you pay? (Childcare question)....
FYI, I told my mom I was prepared to go up to $125 a day and she thinks $100 is probably a lot but to me, it would totally be worth it - if we could agree on the situation and make it work for both of us.

Re: What would you pay? (Childcare question)....
I'd say $15 per hour. I don't think you should offer to pay a family member less unless they offer first or they are financially wealthy. If they are watching your kids for money, they should get paid the going rate.

Re: What would you pay? (Childcare question)....
Not the same situation at all, but I pay a good friend $10 an hour to watch my DD in the friend’s house. She’s there for 10 hours a day, only 1 day a week though. That’s probably not very helpful, but just figured I’d share.

Re: What would you pay? (Childcare question)....
To come to you for a toddler and NB, I would say $75-$100 per day (low range to high range).
When I looking into doing this, I was offered $12 per hour for me to come to someone's house with my DS for about the same hours. They had 1 toddler.

Nooo, Steph, you gotta remember you are out of state! I paid $250/wk for infant care, so she is probably looking at around $500/week for two in a center!
I think $100/day is reasonable

I was thinking the same thing but I guess it seems like the going rate for a nanny to come to your home.
Jayden's home-based daycare charges us $25/day, I don't see how she possibly makes money so we usually pay her $35-40/day.
ETA: When both kids were at a daycare center FT, we paid $450/week for an infant and 2yr old.
