UPDATED!! Letter from the Department of Health Services
Someone I know just received a letter in the mail from the Dept. of health services.
All is says is We have a very important health matter to discuss with you. It listed times to call and a heath care rep name.
The person called but everyone is out to lunch.
Any ideas?
I am freaking out for them because I read online that it has to do with a previous partner contracting HIV/AIDS and they was exposed.
Not sure how true that is. I didn't tell them this though. I dont want to scare them.
PS they let me post this. they're cool with it if it means they might get an answer sooner than waiting for the rep to call back.
ETA: The women called back. She can't discuss this over the phone and he needs to go to the place. I've never seen my BIL like this. He is so scared. I am heading home with the kids. Please pray this is nothing too serious.
UPDATE:
I just spoke to BIL. It was HIV/AIDS. They couldn't tell him who it was. They sent him to Brentwood to be tested. It was a finger prick test and you get the results in 10 min. Came back negative. The guy taking the test said it may have been that he was with the person even before she had it. But when they get it they have to list every single person they ever had sex with because it can be hard to pin point when you got it so better safe than sorry.
He thinks he may know who the person might be and he's pretty sure she might have gotten it after, way after, they broke up.
Thanks everyone for the prayers and positive thinking. Now he has to tell SIL and even though all is ok he's worried how she will react.
Im just glad it's over and he has an answer. I've never seen him the way he was ever.

I know sometimes it's part of "contact tracing" or "partner notification" which actually helps in slowling down the spread of diseases so why it might not necessarily be HIV it could be another transmittable disease.
Sending prayers to your friend she gets answers soon and good answers at that.

Re: Letter from the Department of Health Services
Were they recently in a hospital or government building.? Maybe something is going around and they are contacting anyone who may have been in the location at the time?

Re: Letter from the Department of Health Services
OH god I am so worried for them.
Its my BIL
He's been with his wife for 13 years. 4 kids (one just born 8 months ago). All healthy. SIL has no issues...at least none that she has told me. We are super close and we tell each other everything. I know how long she was constipated for so I know she would tell me if she had a std issue.
I am so sick over this. I am with BIL now and he is pacing the floor like a lunatic. I just stopped in to see the baby and now this.
Please pray its not serious. I want to vomit my stomach is in knots and its not even me. I can't imagine him or when SIL comes home.

Re: Letter from the Department of Health Services
It could mean that someone they came into contact with at a doctors office, hospital, sexual way, etc has HIV/aids or another virus like hepatitis. How about tattoos? Did he got one recently?

Provided he or his wife has not cheated it probably is not related to HIV. Maybe something else like hepatitis or something contagious. it's nothing serious.

I know he got a new tat but not sure how long ago. I want to say over a year ago. He took off out of here to meet the lady so I can't ask. But I am going to text him.

This is what I told him. I don't know if either one of them ever stepped out. I mean I know them and from what I know of them they would never do that to each other BUT who knows these days.

I know there was a recent issue with tat ink that was mixed with contaminated water.
I hope everything is fine.
------- It's definitely the DOH, right? Not some prank??

Re: Letter from the Department of Health Services
Try not to panic too much.
As for HIV, I thought it was routine that they test for this as part of the blood work leading up to childbirth?
I had DS in 2008 and I remember being tested for it.
Keep us posted though.
Maybe it's something others will get in the mail too so it's helpful to have an idea what it could be about if you are okay sharing.

Re: Letter from the Department of Health Services
I am in NJ but I know that when I was pg in 2007 and in 2009 that they test all mom's for HIV and various STDs both during the pregnancy and at delivery. I came back negative for all, but I recall being told that it was routine and you could not opt out of the blood tests. Good luck.

This is what I thought too. I just watched something on the OWN network yesterday where the woman had contracted HIV. she had to give a list of people whom she had been with.
