UPDATED:: Shortness of breath after C-Section?

Has anyone experienced this? I had a somewhat scary c-section experience this time. After they gave me the spinal and I laid down my blood pressure dropped to like 70/40 and I couldn't breathe.

I'm not sure if it's just in my head or not, but sometimes it'd hard to breathe when I am just sitting around.

I asked my doc about it the other day at my incision checkup and she said that if it doesn't get better to go to the ER.

Has anyone had this? TIA!

UPDATE:

So I wasn't feeling any better so I went to the ER on Sunday night. They ruled out any blood clots but said the cat scan of my chest came back abnormal.

The next day I went to my primary care physician and they did a bunch of tests - EKG, Echo,etc...and I met with the cardiologist in the office.

I have fluid around my heart and lungs and they referred me to a pulmonologist. I went yesterday and he put me on some meds to get rid of the water. If it doesn't go away I will have to be hospitalized. I took the meds last night and actually feel A LOT better so I hope it's working!

Thanks!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I did.... for a while, and it was worse when it was humid out or raining.

I felt like my chest was "heavy".

Re: Shortness of breath after C-Section?

I know an epidural can cause a drop in blood pressure and can affect the chest muscles but I would imagine it should be out of your system by now. When they did my epidural with Derek I got extremely dizzy when I layed back from my blood pressure dorpping. I didnt have that with TJ.

I had shortness of breath after delivering Derek and didnt have a C-section. My insides hurt too...I felt like my organs hurt Chat Icon

I remember feeling it, too.

Did you use the little blow thingy after surgery?
I was really bad about using it and my friend who is an RN told me after the fact that it's really important to use it to prevent pneumonia, etc.

Do you feel like you can't catch your breath at all? Like laboring hard to breathe? If so, i would definitely go to the ER. If it just feels a little harder than usual, i'd still be super aware of it, and if you notice any other changes (anything... a headache, even just slightly "off"... anything), i would go to the ER also. Did they put you on lasix? Did they tell you to check your weight daily to be aware of still retaining fluid?

Glad that you got it checked out, and that you're feeling better!!! Chat Icon

OMG...thank god you followed up and went to the hospital!!!! Do they think this is connected to the c-section or epidural? That is so scary.

Re: UPDATED:: Shortness of breath after C-Section?

that does sound scary. I'm glad you went to the doc because if it was me I would have assumed it was just anxiety kicking in. I have shortness of breath/trouble getting a deep breath when I'm sitting around pretty much 24/7 so would have assumed it was that and not something that was actually medical. Hope you feel better soon!
