Vaccination Question
DS is going for his 2 month app't on Friday and is supposed to get 7 vaccinations.
How many shots did your children get in one visit? I feel like its too much for his little body all at once. Doctors don't seem to think so..Also, not sure why he needs all these shots so early. I mean sersiously, my baby is not going to get Heppatitis B

Re: Vaccination Question
I only allow ONE shot per visit. The doctor is okay with that too. It is "up to me" and what I feel is best. I know I will have to go a few times extra but I am okay with that.

Re: Vaccination Question
My DD had her two month shots last Thursday. Some are combined, I don't remember how many vaccinations, but only 4 shots and one oral medication. The oral one was for the rotavirus and the shots were for the other diseases. She had no reaction except for being a little sleepy on Friday.

Re: Vaccination Question
My DS is scheduled for his 2 month next week and is supposed to have 3 shots (dtp, hib and prevnar) plus roto. (If you consider the DTP as 3 vaccines then that would equal 7 immunizations)
I'm still not sure how I feel about it. I'm considering asking to split them up, but then his 3 month visit already has 2 more shots scheduled.

My DS is 14 months old and has had only 1 shot each visit. I won't allow anymore. There is no MUST be done this month or that month. D0 what you feel is right, there is time for catch-up as your DS gets older.

Re: Vaccination Question
For the 2 month visit we only did Dtap and Rotovirus. I am so not concerned about Hep B and we will give it later on.
For the 3 month we did Prevnar and HIB.
For the 4 months we did Dtap and Rotovirus
For the 5 months we will do Prevnar and HIB.
DO what you feel comfortable with.

Re: Vaccination Question
I only allow one per visit. I spread it out and went to the DR. every two weeks for my kids shots. Hep shots were the last ones my kids got.

Landon got the same last week. He got Hep. B in the hospital when he was born.

Re: Vaccination Question
We are splitting them up as follows:
2 mo: Prevnar, HIB, Polio
3 mo: DTaP, Rotavirus
4 mo: Prevnar, HIB, Polio
5 mo: DTaP, Rotavirus
6 mo: Prevnar, HIB, Polio
7 mo: DTaP, Rotavirus
So he is technically one month behind the AAP rec. And will be on track by 7 month rather than 6 months.
We refused the HepB in the hospital and he hasn't gotten that one so far. Not sure when he will get it. We are also planning on delaying and splitting the MMR. Our doctor went with it, wasn't crazy about it, but basically said fine. He did want DS to have the Prevnar and HIB first though since there is more of a chance of contracting the illnesses those diseases cause than say Polio or Diptheria. My main concern was not giving him more than one aluminum containing vaccine at one time. Our schedule works out that way. Do what YOU are most comfortable with.

Re: Vaccination Question
7 seems way too high. Did they say what they were? I can't even think of 7 vaccines that a child that young would need.

Re: Vaccination Question
7 seems VERY excessive. I would tell the ped. NO WAY!!! I only allow 1 shot per visit, however, my ped. gives at the most 2.

Re: Vaccination Question
I brake up all DS's shots, I have to take him to the Dr twice a month but I don't care, he only gets 1 or 2 shots a visit.
ETA: Your the mother, if you don't want your son getting that many shots tell them! They can't give him that many if you say no.

Re: Vaccination Question
7??!! I've never heard of that. My ped. gives 2 at a time max. That means we went very often (every month pretty much) in the first year to keep on schedule. We did delay a few vaccines but those were after she was one.

Re: Vaccination Question
I am going to say that most likely they want to give you vaccinations that are combined and will only give three actual shots. If you are not comfortable with it I would absolutely say something and have them do only one or two shots. If they refuse find another ped. You and your ped want to be on the same page. Good Luck
