it's not impossible at all! DH and i both work and he took care of the paperwork.
we just got the paperwork, filled it out, called with any questions we had and sent it in. there is nothing "tricky" about it. 
neither one of us knows ANYTHING about real estate/laws/taxes/etc. the forms truly are not confusing or hard. and if you're confused, just call and ask the questions and they'll tell you what to do.
Interesting! I guess then we will try it ourselves.

yeah I always had the impression that you had to have a lot of time on your hands to do this. Oh well, either way I'm happy with our outcome. Maybe next time I do it I will do it myself. Thanks for all the info ladies.

in nassau, it has to be done before march, but when can you START the process? i don't get it... do i have to wait until january first to submit my claim, or can it be done at any time during the year

I did it on my own for Nassau. I called Mark Lewis and he gave me the nassau company. I called them after I got the offer from nassau and he thought he couldn't do any better. He told me to take the offer. It was easy.
Who was the guy in Nassau Mark Lewis recommended? I called a couple of years ago but dont remember his name and number.

we greived and won two years ago=$1300
we are in the process of doing it again this year, I'm pretty sure we will win again.
We are also greiving for the first time on another property we own, have used Mark Lewis for everything, I think the fee is fair.

I don't know. It was literally a 10 minute call about 8 months ago when I got the letter.
Call Mark Lewis' office and ask. They will tell you.
You have to wait for the next window though.
I did it myself and it was very easy.

I did not follow up with them, we kept receiving letters in the mail with information.
No one comes to your home.
And they (Mark Lewis) does not contact you except by letter in the mail.
We waited about a year to win this.

same here. I attempted to do this last year for Town of Babylon. I just started too late. I'm going to try again this year.
You can go into your town clerk's office and get a copy of your house report.
Then use their computer to find simiilar homes that pay less taxes
or
you can get copies of recent home sales that sold for less than you are appraised at.
It seemed easy, there were people from Mark Lewis & other companies sitting at the computers doing the same thing.
My coworker does it on her own for town of southhampton. It takes her an hour or two. She's the one that convinced me I should do it.

When I won my grievance I called my mortgage company and told them about my tax reduction. I faxed them a copy of the letter and they adjusted my monthly payment accordingly.
