I know I already replied to this thread, but I have to say, having read more articles in the past day or so, what makes me angriest is to hear the LIPA chief say they were undermanned because they didn't expect the storm to be this bad. SERIOUSLY??? Which weather report were THEY watching??? I'm not saying they could've done more ahead of time -- I really don't know. And I'm not saying the people out there doing restoration aren't working incredibly hard -- I appreciate THEM tremendously. But to come right out and say that they didn't expect the storm to be this bad? When EVERYONE in the world, practically, was predicting this? When they had a similar issue with Irene? I'm sorry, but this infuriates me.
And yes, not having power back -- with absolutely ZERO communication -- isn't helping my mood. I don't EXPECT it back soon. I'd like SOME information or at least AN IDEA of when they expect to at least be in my neighborhood. I don't think that's too much to ask. I could handle it if I had ANY sense of ANYTHING -- but to say they're keeping us updated -- when all I've ever seen is "crew will be dispatched as soon as possible. Updating estimate" -- no. That's NOT acceptable. I DON'T CARE what the estimate is. I just WANT one so I can plan accordingly.
Sorry for the additional vent. I'm so grateful to *only* be dealing with loss of electric. I'm just so frustrated with this lack of communication and foresight.
This. I called LIPA today just so I could get an idea of when the power would be back on my street. We have a tree down, and the surrounding blocks were restored Tuesday. The representative told me I was the first person to put a ticket in, but she couldn't tell me when someone would be out or how much longer it would be. IF it's going to be another 4 weeks I can make alternate living arrangements, if it's a couple of more days I'll stick it out. I understand they can't get to everyone, but it's getting colder. What happens if a pipe bursts?

Vent - People's attitudes toward LIPA
I know I am extremely blessed and fortunate to be able to stay at my parents house who lost power for a day. My problem is that where I live a huge transformer was pulled off the side of her house due to a huge tree knocking down a power pole. It is not something that can be fixed in a day it will take a few days. I have a power line down in my yard 5 feet from my back door. Today no one was there. They said 7 14 days I expect longer. I keep telling myself it could be worse. I am devastated by what everyone else is going through and I know that soon we will all have our power back with patience time and hopefully fast working lipa crews.

Giving an exact date just makes it worse.
They're going to give people a day, and then the person is not going to like the date and complain it's too far away.
Or, they'll be OK with the date, but they'll miss the date by one day and people will still be upset.
They gave an estimate before the storm; 7-14 days. If you're out after 14 days and they still dont have an estimate, that is unacceptable.
I understand that would be the case for some people. I'm speaking for myself. It's hard to make alternate arrangements when I have no idea what the scope should be. ANY sense would be helpful, especially with people all around me getting power but no idea if that will be me soon or not. I'm also TERRIFIED of driving anywhere because I don't want to waste gas, which just leads us to be even more of an imposition on my poor parents. For me -- ANY estimate would be better than nothing at all.

Vent - People's attitudes toward LIPA
LIPA sucks. I lose power frequently and when I lose it, I lose it for days when neighbors down the block are usually only down for much less. They don't fix the underlying issue of the power being so crappy near me.
And now a neighbors tree went down taking down the power lines. I'll. E lucky if I have power back by NEXT weekend. They need to be taken over.
