Visa Gift Cards.. how do you use every last penny?
I absolutely HATE getting Visa gift cards, I'm never able to use the full amount.
Either
1. I try to use it at a bunch of different things and wind up with a balance of like $3.73 that I can't use anywhere... 
2. I try to use the full amount at once.. this time $125 on Amazon.. but in order for Amazon to authorize the purchase it takes $1 off the card and only $124 is available..
What am I doing wrong? If you can't use the full amount, isn't it a scam?

I've never had a problem using it in full.
As long as you know the remaining balance of the gift card (call the 800 number on the back) then you can finish off the balance. You just need to tell the cashier (if in store) the actual balance left.

Definitely! I usually use it for an online purchase and then use the remaining balance to get something from Duane Reade.

I write on the card with a marker exactly how much is left... and i would definitely use them... sometimes it gets annoying because you have to use more than one method of payment but i feel better using every penny

I use it in a store and not online. Just make sure you tell the cashier the amount left on the card because it will most likely decline.
