wainscoting

Is wainscoting difficult to clean? Our house gets a lot of dust. I don't want to have to constantly clean in the grooves with dust. I'm just looking at it for a powder room - but the kids will be using it, even for potty training:) so I want to make sure I can wipe it clean easily. Or just paint the walls for now.

TIA!

Yes. Yes and yes.

Just had it done in my powder room and I'm already aggravated! Chat Icon

Constantly having to dust and clean the grooves (especially the chair rail moulding and the base moulding).

Re: wainscoting

I had it in our powder room in our townhouse and I found it very easy to clean. Just a quick swipe of a dry Swiffer cloth and it was good as new!

It may depend on how it's painted, but mine is the hardest thing to clean. It's never clean with all the grooves. I think putting it in is my biggest regret in my house.

Re: wainscoting

I have it in my living room
And dining room. The dining room - I dust it w a swiffer every other week. Hardly anything there. The living room - twice a week swiffer and once a week wet rag w vinegar & water. And I pledge them once a month.

Difference is the dogs don't go in dining room. But living room? The dog hair is attracted to my beautiful white wainscoting lol

If you do get it, make sure you paint with a semi gloss - this way there aren't any rough spots and it's easy to wipe clean.

I'm currently redoing my bathroom and was considering beadboard - but with these dogs, I'll be using a q-tip to clean the hair out of the grooves

wainscoting

I had a plastic type wainscoting in my old downstairs bathroom. I couldn't stand it. No matter how many times I went over it I felt like I could never get it clean.
