Waiting time frame

Is the average wait for international adoption 2-3 years? This is what I have heard and am very frustrated by this.. I heard sometimes it can be 6 months.. I haven't started the process.. but I am worried about the wait and if I can financially handle the cost.

Re: Waiting time frame

it depends on the country you want to adopt from, and sometimes the agency too.
China has i think over a 3 year wait right now-- and it takes about 5 or 6 months BEFORE that to do all the paperwork, homestudy, etc. i always thought i would adopt from china, but the wait time is frustrating.
i started looking into korea and depending on the agency- one told me about 16-18 months, and another one told me like 9 months. i guess it depends on how big the agency is and how many "cases" they take on... not really sure.
other countries like russia have a pretty short wait time i think BUT you have to make 2 trips over there.
i think first you have to read up on the different programs-- adoption.com has some good info. you can find out all about the different requirements for different coutires.
and once you pick a program, you can start searching for agencies that offer that program, and get more specific info on cost, and time line.
we haven't started the process yet, but i've been doing a lot of research-- mostly i just spent a lot of time online searching around for different things, and then e-mailed certain agencies to more specific info. good luck!!
