this is really sad how young these people are. with all the education out there, i just cant believe how stupid some people can be
it is just that the punishments are not severe enough. in most cases, not all, but in most cases people just think - well, the worst that can happen is i'll spend a night in the drunk tank, pay a fine, be on my way. and in most cases, again - not all, but in most cases what happens is exactly that. so, what do they have to lose? and they chance it.
you left out losing there Lic for a few months - and possibily being dropped from your insurace (most likely)
and if they are under 21- 1 year
I wouldn't want to lose my Lic for a few months- and I live in Queens- with buses that stop in front of my house
besides that fact that I might hurt some one or myself- that is enough reason for me
yes, those are the examples i covered in a vague way by stating NOT ALL CASES --- but, in MOST cases it is just a night in the drunk tank and a fine - sometimes they make you go to some alcohol class. that is usually, for a first offense, what happens. and i'm talking about people who are over 21.
even the other "punishments" you listed are nowhere near the level of severity they should be. NOT EVEN CLOSE. and like another poster stated - they 99% of the time get argued down.

not that I am proud to admit this- but I know plenty of people that have gotten arrested for DWI -
and they ALL have lost their Lic- some for 3 months and some for 2 years
even if it gets pleaded down to a DWAI - you are still losing your lic for a few months
maybe in Nass they plead them down more then they do in Suffolk?
you can't even plead a traffic ticket in Suffolk- but I have a lawyer for Nass that can plead down any traffic ticket to pratically nothing-

Well one of 2 things.
Lawyer is not pleading down or Suffolk county is a lot different in Nassau cause honetly I'd say 90% of these people will be pleaded down

well considering what I know about nassau county traffic court- I would say that they plead down everyone for $$$
and Suffolk doesn't
I find it kind of ironic that Nassau would make SUCH a big deal about DWI arrests only to plead them down in the end
maybe instead of posting pictures- they should make the punishment fit the crime - just an idea!

I hope they do change the laws. The idiots who hit and killed my friend served less then a year. AND they were in this country illegally.
I still think having the pictures on the wall of shame is a good idea. Maybe the parents will finally give a crap and be embarrased and yell at their kids. SORRY JMHO of course

Re: Wall of shame
I would like to see the laws changed as well
it honestly doesn't seem like posting the pictures are detering people enough- even though they are fun to look at
they really need to stop pleading even 1st time offenders down-

Re: Wall of shame
I agree with Daniella - These cases all get pled down - Nassau or Suffolk. A family member had a drinking problem and got a DWI - blew a .12 and got a slap on the wrist, literally - in Suffolk. He had to go to a probation officer for six months. He did not lose his license... he did pay a fine and got points on his license, which he took a defensive driving class to counter. He then got a DWI in Nassau maybe a year later...same thing, except he could only drive to and from work (restricted license) and had to go to AA. He has since quit drinking and driving.....but not due to the laws or punishment...because he was afraid of what might happen when he got behind the wheel.
