As crazy as it may seem the reason young healthy people are being sickened and dying is from an overreaction in the body. The body with strong immune system is going to attack the virus and go into hyper mode which fills the lungs and the person can't breathe. Would almost make sense to wear yourself down and weaken your immune system before going someplace super public like Disney
Can you please cite something to support this because it makes NO sense to me. Children are no healthier than adults and their immune systems are weaker, NOT stronger.
What you've described is NOT the normal reason people get sick and/or die from the flu. The vast majority of people who die from the flu are those with underdeveloped or weakened immune systems -- the elderly, children, and people suffering from other diseases / conditions that weaken the immune system, not those with healty immune systems. I'm not saying it CAN'T happen, but it is not the norm. Telling people they're better off with a weakened immune system is not only untrue, but dangerous. A healthy immune system is the best first line of defense in fighting off any virus.
But that's what makes this virus different supposedly. The healthier you are, the stronger the immune response. The strong immune response is leading to fluid building up in the lungs, thus causing death.
That's the difference and why she was saying what she did. This virus is different in that regard and that's why the overwhelming concern.
In Mexico, healthy adults 20-40 were the largest age group dying. So that was her point in that statement.
And I am asking for a cite that explains that in greater detail. I have a difficult time understanding why the virus would respond to antivirals, but it's really a hyperactive immune response that is causing death. I'm trying to learn what is going on here...
ETA - I saw your Q&A thread... I think that may explain it. Thanks. I was just going to suggest reading that.
