Was it worth it? Wedding Related

I have a friend that is torn between two dresses. She is leaning towards the less expensive dress b/c she is not one of those brides that is all about the dress, so she had planned on getting an affordable dress and splurging elsewhere. Ofcousre, she has found an expensive dress that she loves, but it's way more than she wants to spend.

So, I was just curious how everyone feels about their dress now that the wedding is over.....

and the wedding brain has subsided and we can think like normal/rational people!!!

I spent alot and it was worth every penny. But I was one of those brides that is "all about the dress" Chat Icon

Now that it's just sitting in my closet I'm a little like ummm.... ok great now what? BUT I wouldn't have put that money into another aspect of the wedding, I just wouldn't have spent it.

ETA: I tried on over 100 dresses and I still wish I would have kept looking because even though I loved my dress, afterwards I saw other gowns that I loved even more.

I wound up spending a lot of money on a relatively inexpensive dress - due to alterations, bankrupt shop, etc.

I LOVED my dress.

I didn't spend a lot of $ and loved my dress (& still do!)

while my dress was FAR from cheap, it was a lot less than higer end designers. I LOVE my dress. it was perfect for me Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: I also wanted to add that if she has the $$$, she should get the dress she loves, regardless of price. My mom bought the dress for me and I was completely prepared to kick in more $ if the one I found was over what I had in mind to spend. I got lucky I guess. Chat Icon

My dress was one of the most expensive ones I looked at and I loved it. As soon as I put it on I knew it was my dress!

And I am happy that I did because the pictures are my memories and they came out great - the dress looked great and I was so comfortable in it!

Re: Was it worth it? Wedding Related

I spent more than I intended on my gown - after all was said and done I think it worked out to twice my original budget.

I don't regret the money I spent, but what I do regret is not looking at gowns in the higher price range right from the start. I bought my gown at a sample sale and when I saw it I *had* to have it and didn't care about price at all (it was still a steal compared to the retail price). When I was shopping in bridal stores I told them my budget and didn't look at gowns over that amount. I just wonder what else was out there that I might have loved...

my parents generously bought my dress

it was more than i thought it would be, but I honestly loved it, and so did my mom!

if i was paying for it , i would've bought the dress as well, and not regretted it

I loved my dress but it was triple what I wanted to spend. so , my wonderful mom paid for half of it. I really loved it , but now I feel a little bit bad that so much $$ was spent on it and it's sitting in my closet. I'm usually very practical but that all went out the window when I tried on my gown for the first time

I set a budget for myself, but I didnt look at price tags when trying on.

I ended up buying a dress that was under my budget. if it was over, i would have bought it anyway.

but, my budget was $2k. I couldnt see spending more than that for a dress im wearing for a day. Id rather get a Thomas Knoell for my headpiece.

I actually expected to spend more than I did on my dress so when I saw the price I was completely fine with it. Compared to some other dresses that I saw this was expensive but I was in love with it and had to have it. So for me it was worth every penny. I loved my dress and everytime I look at pics I smile.

I spent a smallish amount on having a dress made for me and I enjoyed it. I wouldn't have spent big bucks on it...I had a very sort of homespun small but fantastically beautiful wedding in St James.

After the wedding was over I put it into a bag and it got thrown away by mistake....

oh well! What was I going to do with it anyway....I surely wasn't going to wear it to my second wedding to the Baron, the Baron surely is going to buy me a new dress!!!

Re: Was it worth it? Wedding Related

My dress is priceless.

It was custom made for me and is one of a kind.

My mom made it based on my design.

And it was under $300 including hand embroidery from India & 10 yds of Italian silk satin.

That said, if I didn't have my mom and the huge gift, I would have spent whatever it took to get "the" dress. Whether I would have fallen in love with an expensive couture gown or a less expensive mass produced one...as long as I loved it, I would have gotten it.

You spend ALL day in it. ALL your pictures, for all eternity, are in it. It's what you wear when you become a wife and marry the man of your dreams.

Everyone should wear a dress they love. Regretting what you wore is not something you need...the day is stressful enough.

I wonder how different this pole would be if we had gotten married in the 80's and early 90's!! (talking more about style than cost!)

I spent more than I intended. I planned on spending $1500 and wound up getting a $4500 dress for $3000 on sale.

I loved my dress and I am glad I got it. BUT I know that I could have found one for less money that wouldve been just as nice.

It fit in my budget so I didnt have to give up anything to get it. If I did, I probably would have kept looking.

I am surprised at how many love their dress after the fact. I think it's great!

I knew that no dress was going to be the "one" for me! I am too indecisive. Although, I think my dress is timeless, so I don't think that I will ever cringe about it, but I still see so many that I love!

I liked my dress...I absolutely loved the mantilla. I tried on 80 dresses and the one I wore on my wedding day was the one I was most comfortable in.

Honestly, I don't think I could love any dress that was white/ivory - I really wanted a black dress but tradition won out Chat Icon
