Water for powdered formula
Which is best (or does it REALLY matter)?
Let's assume that my water is totally filtered. What would you use?

We leave the brita pitcher on the counter and use that all day at room temp. No warming up, quick and FREE.

Re: Water for powdered formula
I boil tap in a glass pot and store in a glass jar on my counter. Baby water is not recommended for babies under 6 months because of the added fluoride. Actually I don't like it at all but that's a whole other debate

Re: Water for powdered formula
Leslie, I always boil DD's water the night before and then make a formula pitcher the next day with it. I know at my DD's age they say you can use tap water, but Im a worry wart. At Abby's age I would 100% still boil tap water unless using the Brita!
ETA: I dont use Bottled water (Disani,Poland Spring, etc.) because it is not FDA regulated and anything could be in there.

Re: Water for powdered formula
We boil DD's water as well.
I asked the ped at her 6 month visit and she said to continue to boil it for her first year because of traces of drugs and assorted ickiness that has been found in the water. Just to be on the safe side.

Re: Water for powdered formula
Keep in mind that if you only boil the tap water, you're actually concentrating any solids that are in the water (iron, lead, chlorine, salts, anything else).
We use Pur/Brita filters for all drinking water in our house, and when we did make powdered formula, we used the filtered water from the tap.

Re: Water for powdered formula
We used filtered water. The only thing we were not to use by a ped is the water cooler water (those big jugs)> I forget exactly why, something to do with fluoride.

Re: Water for powdered formula
Our ped said to use regular tap water, filtered if we wanted to for our own peace of mind.
She warned against bottled water since it doesn't have the fluoride needed for developing teeth.

I am neurotic. I use the Brita off the tap, and then I would boil it. I have a special teakettle just for DS water too. I need therapy

Re: Water for powdered formula
We have filtered water and we boil it. We keep it at room temp in a glass container (so you can put it in when the water is still hot). I would feel comfortable just using filtered water but my husband likes the extra step.

Re: Water for powdered formula
at the hospital they offer a baby care class while you are recovering and at that class they strongly rec to boil tap or any water- it must be boiled. Using brita or bottled water was not sterile water.
I only use RTF. easier for us. We have never used powder.

Re: Water for powdered formula
leslie my pediatrician told me to boil regular tap water for the first 3 months. i put a big pot on the stove to boil, cooled it down and used it the whole day then did the same the next day. i left it covered on the stove.
my ped said after 3 months just to use regular tap water especially because of the possible BPA contamination if the water bottle was in heated areas during packaging and shipping.
we use regular tap now, and bring a bottle of tap or a new sealed bottle when we go out
