Wayyyy TMI ? - Did any c-section moms have their incision get infected?

I had my 2nd c-section last week. My first one went perfectly well. With this one, my healing time was much faster, but there's one spot on my incision line that I'm worried about.

I've been keeping a maxi pad against the incision to wick away the moisture (as per my OB), and there's one tiny spot where there's always some green drainage Chat Icon It's not a lot, but enough shows up every day that I'm concerned about it. Also, when I get up out of bed, it feels like someone is stabbing me in that spot Chat Icon

I have my incision check tomorrow, so I know I'll have an answer then, but...I'm just wondering: Those of you who had an incision get infected, how was it treated? I'm terrified that she's going to want to, like, rip it open and clean it out Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Mine wasn't infected, but it didn't close for some time and I had visiting nurses come to my house for a few months to check on the incision until it healed up Chat Icon

Hopefully when they check tomorrow they'll be able to give you some answers

Mine wasnt infected but I thought it was. I also had some drainage and pain when bending. Took a few weeks to really heal. Hopefully you dont have an infection and it just needs time to heal. HUGS!

i had a part that didn't close correctly- my ob taught DH how to irrigate it and pack it so I didnt have to have a nurse come to it- it wasnt bad or painful at all- he had to do it twice a day...

Re: Wayyyy TMI ? - Did any c-section moms have their incision get infected?

My incision got infected with my first c-section. I had to go to the OB every 2-3 days and have it drained. I was on one course of 10 day antibiotics, the infection went away, then came back with a vengeance 2 days after stopping the antibiotics, so they put me on another course of 10 days of antibiotics (a stronger one). Once it was starting to clear up I just had to keep draining it and make sure it didn't flare up again. All in all it took about a month to go away completely.

TMI WARNING!!!!

They didn't have to open anything up. When I would go to the OB they would press on the incisioin to get the puss to come out. I had to do that at home 3 times a day as well in between OB appts. Chat Icon

is it warm to the touch or red? if yes, it could be infected Chat Icon

i remember some fluid leaking from mine but it was clear. I also never had pain in the incision but that might be because it was numb, still totally numb 8 weeks later Chat Icon

id call you OB just to be safe.

i had one spot that was not infected, but just wasn't closing as well as the OB would have liked. I had to clean it twice a day with peroxide and it was fine after a week or so.

It's red, but I can't bring myself to touch it because it makes me queasy Chat Icon I'm seeing the OB tomorrow, I'm just hoping the treatment isn't enough to turn my stomach Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Wayyyy TMI ? - Did any c-section moms have their incision get infected?

My incision became infected after my first c-section. The doctor opened it in the office and wiped it, and it was the most painful thing I ever felt. I wept like a baby. I was also hormonal, as this was just a few weeks post partum.

i had a stabbing pain and when i took the stirri strips off there was a small hole that TMI gushed for hrs and that leaked for weeks. I had to wash it 3 x's a day with peroxide and saline and keep a saline gauze 24hrs a day. the doc tested the spot and it wasnt an infection i was allergic to the stiches

Definitely get it checked ASAP.
Is it hot to the touch? Are you running fever at all?

My mom just has surgery (like a c section) for a cyst and ended up with MRSA. Thank god she got it checked right away.

Honestly I wouldn't wait if it's red.
Ask DH to touch it. Get an appointment today.

Re: Wayyyy TMI ? - Did any c-section moms have their incision get infected?

I had an infection with DD#1 - the heat and the flap of skin made the moisture worse on the area even with pads to try to keep it dry. It was extremely sensitive and red and luckily all I needed was a special ointment to help clear it up. It was a PITA dealing wtih that and a newborn especially when the itch factor ran so high.

Can you call your OB today and let them know how bad it is? They may have you come in a day early to check it out. My 2nd c/s incision did not close properly but thankfully that was also easily fixed for me

Ok, so...I finally brought myself to touch it. I don't *think* it's hot to the touch, it feels pretty much like the surrounding skin. No fever, just feeling pretty exhausted but I figure that has a good amount to do with having an 18 month-old and a newborn...

I can't move up my appointment because my DH is at a conference and there's no one around to drive me. Chat Icon

I just hope it's not as bad as I'm imagining... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I sort of did...

Mine was really swollen (which I had no idea about since it was my first c-section) but I went to get it checked out.

There was fluid under the incisison and the doctor wanted to cut me open right there, drain & restitch! I nearly had a heart attack and said I wanted to go home and think about what to do... it ended up opening by itself that night and drained completely (GROSS) but was fine.

Re: Wayyyy TMI ? - Did any c-section moms have their incision get infected?

My incision didn't close properly and when they went to take out the staples a few days post partum they told me it was infected.

A home healthcare nurse came to my house every morning and packed the incision with gauze that was soaked in a combo of saline and peroxide. That went on for about 5 weeks. Plus they put me on 10 day dose of antibiotics.

The packing didn't hurt at all. And now, 2 years later I am totally fine!

Re: Wayyyy TMI ? - Did any c-section moms have their incision get infected?

I had infections in my incision for like two weeks, I had a course of antibiotics that seemed to clear it up, and then it was leaky and gross for another week so my community midwife suggested that I go to a wound centre who helped me to dress the wound with a silver dressing and they also prescribed Metronidizole. Ask your doctor about an Anaerobic Antibiotic, that might clear it up quickly! Good Luck! I did have a nasty pocket that was packed and dressed every few days for maybe two weeks, it wasn't so bad!

Re: Wayyyy TMI ? - Did any c-section moms have their incision get infected?

I did not have an infection, but I did have a spot that was "leaking" puss. I went to have it checked, and was told just to put neosporin on it and let it air out..no pad, band aids, etc....just gauze if necessary.. It eventually stopped and closed up after a few days.

Now my friend had an infection, a bad one....she had to go back into the hospital, they reopened her, and she had to heal closed naturally. Chat Icon

Similar story. Mine opened up a week later. Had a nurse come in EVERY SINGLE day for two months to drain and change the dressing.

Now THAT'S something I do not wish on anyoneChat Icon

Re: Wayyyy TMI ? - Did any c-section moms have their incision get infected?

Mine opened up after I got home from the hospital. It was very painful but only on one side. I didn't have a fever but I felt flu-like
and exhausted.

I had to clean it 3 times a day with peroxide and change the dressing. I was also on antibiotics to prevent infection.

Its been 11 weeks and it is only 90% closed. My dr cortorized it to speed up the healing process at around 9 weeks. It was not fun, but I am slowly getting better.

Feel better Chat Icon
