We went to the ENT specialist...

Caiden definitely has to get tubes in his ears. Chat Icon I'm so upset about this. I know it's for the best, but I'm so scared about the "being put under" part of it. I'm so worried something bad is going to happen because of it. The procedure only takes about 15 minutes, but still! Chat Icon I haven't scheduled it yet. They'll probably do it within 2 weeks. Chat Icon The other bad part of it, is that the doctor said he has to wear ear plugs anytime he's around water until the plugs fall out. Which is anywhere from 6 months to a year. How am I going to get ear plugs in a 16 month old? It's going to be a huge fight, and then if I actually get them in he'll be trying to take them out. What a mess! He'll even have to wear them when he's in the bathtub! Why in the bathtub? He doesn't dunk his head or anything? Chat Icon

Melissa, I'm so sorryChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

My sister had the same problems with her little guy and it does get better (with the plugs thing). They don't want any water getting into the tubes for risk of infection. Imagine being the only kid who couldn't go into the pool, sprinklers, etc.? It was hard. But will be the best for him in the long run...that's what you have to keep reminding yourself.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: We went to the ENT specialist...

My cousin is 23 and had the same thing your son has. When she was 6 months she had tubes put into her ears. She too had to have ear plugs in all the time. Even when she was older she still wore the ear plugs just to be safe. Her doctor told her to use silly puddy because she used the wax ones and she took very hot showers it would melt the wax.

It does get better. She can hear well, has learned to read lips and do a little sign language.

It will be rough at first, but it will get easier as he gets older.

Re: We went to the ENT specialist...

Oh Mommy- I is very hard but for the best. My first had an emergency double hyrnia (think I spelled that wrong) surgery at 6 weeks old. I walked in with a baby and walked out with a jacket. I thought I was going to lose my mind. The hour felt like an eternity, but she was all better no more pain, and the memory of the procedure is non existant (for her at least).

Many hugs, much love mommy to mommy
